Abstract: A spoken request for directory assistance is placed through a mobile telephone in a conventional manner and data representing information responsive to the request is placed in an easily accessible and actionable database for subsequent retrieval. Actions designed for the type of information, including navigation directions for information which includes a location, are associated with the information and made available to the mobile telephone. Each of these actions are available to the user with only a few key clicks on the reduced keypad of the mobile telephone and initial specification of the place of interest using the same reduced keypad is avoided by allowing the user to simply speak to identify the place of interest.

Abstract: A two-dimensional (2D) image model models the layout structure of a class of document images as an image grammar and includes production rules having explicit layout parameters as data items that indicate information about the spatial relationships among image constituents occurring in images included in the class. The parameters are explicitly represented in the grammar rules in a manner that permits them to be automatically trained by a training operation that makes use of sample document images from the class of modeled documents. After each sample image is aligned with the 2D grammar, document-specific measurements about the spatial relationships between image constituents are taken from the image. Optimal values for the layout parameters are then computed from the measurement data collected from all samples.

Abstract: Data objects are gathered and organized through a computer system and stored for subsequent access through a computer network by a mobile device such as a wireless telephone. The data objects have attributes and can be acted upon using predefined actions and associated types to greatly simplify user accessibility to such data objects through the limited user interface and bandwidth capabilities of a mobile device.
