Patent number: 11053793Abstract: A single layer antenna path profile is provided. An antenna assembly for the single layer antenna profile includes a bobbin having a cylindrical body defining an outer radial surface, an inner radial surface, and a central axis. The antenna assembly also includes one or more channels defined in the outer radial surface. In some aspects, each channel is defined by a continuously curved inner surface having a constant radius. In some aspects, the inner surface extends more than 180 but less than 360 and thereby defines an opening in the body. The antenna assembly also includes a coil including a wire wrapped about the bobbin and received within the one or more channels. In some aspects, an arcuate portion of the wire extends through the opening such that a portion of the wire protrudes out of the channel.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2017Date of Patent: July 6, 2021Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Jesse K. Hensarling, Brian Mohon, Alexei Korovin, Imran Sharif Vehra

Patent number: 10767464Abstract: Wellbore logging tools can include a coil antenna assembly that prevents breakage of a coil wire during downhole use under elevated pressure. The antenna assembly can include an insulator base used to help insulate the wires so elevated downhole pressures do not result in a short to a tool mandrel. The insulator base provides a recessed path for the in/out portions of the wire so manufacturing fixtures of the antenna assembly will not damage them.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2017Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Jesse K. Hensarling, Alexei Korovin, Brian Mohon

Patent number: 8890531Abstract: Disclosed herein are electromagnetic resistivity logging systems and methods that employ magnetic dipole antennas embedded in wall-contacting surfaces. In some embodiments, the antennas are pot-core or ferrite-rod antennas. Prototypes of electromagnetic resistivity logging tools having such antennas exhibit good resistivity logging performance in both water-based and oil-based borehole fluids, indicating that this architecture may yield a logging tool that is suitable for use with borehole fluids of all types. Moreover, the tool offers good spatial resolution, enabling the creation of formation resistivity images for the borehole walls.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2007Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Randal T. Beste, Michael S. Bittar, Jesse K. Hensarling

Patent number: 7839346Abstract: The specification discloses a printed circuit board (PCB) based ferrite core antenna. The traces of PCBs form the windings for the antenna, and various layers of the PCB hold a ferrite core for the windings in place. The specification further discloses use of such PCB based ferrite core antennas in downhole electromagnetic wave resistivity tools such that azimuthally sensitivity resistivity readings may be taken, and borehole imaging can be performed, even in oil-based drilling fluids.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2005Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Michael S.
