  • Publication number: 20200383898
Abstract: A topical composition comprising a mucilage plant extract is provided. The topical composition is formulated for administration to a subject, and may be provided in the form of a skin toner. Methods of preparing the topical composition are also provided, and include combining a mucilage plant extract and a pharmaceutically acceptable additive. The topical composition may be used to control the skin microbiome of a subject, and likewise for treating certain skin conditions involving pathogenic bacteria. A method of ameliorating a skin condition of a subject is therefore also provided. The method generally includes topically administering the topical composition to the skin of the subject, and may be used in ameliorating skin conditions including inflammation and/or decreased epidermal barrier function.

  • Publication number: 20070116789
Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions comprising extracts of Durio zibethinus. The compositions of the present invention are useful for improving the appearance, texture, and/or moisture of mammalian skin. In particular, the compositions of the present invention decrease inflammation in the skin, inhibit matrix metalloprotease-9, which degrades skin proteins such as collagen and elastin, and inhibit melanogenesis in the skin.

  • Publication number: 20060153888
Abstract: Methods and compositions for scavenging reactive molecules, including free radicals, reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen species, in the air are described. More specifically, methods and compositions for scavenging reactive molecules in the air before the reactive chemicals contact the skin or other tissue surface are described. The scavenging occurs by topical application of a scavenging agent, such as a volatile antioxidant, to the skin, or by releasing a scavenging agent, such as a volatile antioxidant, into the air near or surrounding the skin. Additionally, the present invention relates to compositions comprising a scavenging agent in combination with a carrier or vehicle, wherein the scavenging agent may include fragrances or fragrance components having antioxidant properties and wherein the scavenging agent scavenges reactive molecules in the air space surrounding a site on the skin where the composition has been applied.

  • Publication number: 20050112220
Abstract: A skin whitening composition includes an extract of black cohosh obtained by sequentially exposing the black cohosh to two or more solvents of varying solvent strengths. The root of the black cohosh can be separately used to obtain the extract. The composition can be topically applied to the human skin and can further include one or more cosmetically acceptable ingredients. A method of suppressing melanogenesis includes topically applying to the skin a composition comprising an extract of black cohosh obtained by sequentially exposing the black cohosh to two or more solvents of varying solvent strength.
