  • Publication number: 20080296847
Abstract: A packing ring in a multi-staged turbine that includes two ring segments joined by a dovetail feature. In some embodiments, the dovetail feature may include a male/female configuration. In other embodiments, the dovetail feature may include an insert/groove configuration. The insert of the insert/groove configuration may include a protrusion that extends from an approximately flat surface of an end of one of the ring segments. The groove of the insert/groove configuration may include a notch in an approximate flat surface of an end of one of the ring segments. The insert of the insert/groove configuration and the groove of the insert/groove configuration may be of a similar size such that the insert closely fits within the groove.

  • Patent number: 7331754
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a nozzle box assembly including a torus, a steam path ring, and a bridge ring. The torus has a plurality of steam inlets and an annular steam outlet. The steam path ring has an annular steam inlet, the annular steam inlet has an inner diameter (ID) and an outer diameter (OD), the steam path ring is disposed downstream of the torus. The bridge ring has an annular steam inlet and an annular steam outlet, the annular steam outlet has an ID and an OD, the bridge ring is disposed between the torus and the steam path ring, the bridge ring annular steam outlet is adjacent to the steam path ring annular steam inlet, and the steam path ring annular steam inlet OD is greater than the bridge ring annular steam outlet OD and the steam path ring annular steam inlet ID is smaller than the bridge ring annular steam outlet ID.

  • Patent number: 7273348
Abstract: A method for aligning an inner shell of a turbine assembly with an outer shell of the turbine assembly along a transverse centerline of the turbine assembly perpendicular to an axial centerline of the turbine assembly includes positioning a first gib key assembly with respect to the transverse centerline. The first gib key assembly is connected to a first end surface of the inner shell to form a first groove within the first gib key assembly. A projection formed on a first end of the outer shell mateably engages the first groove formed within the first gib key assembly to align the inner shell with the outer shell along the transverse centerline.

  • Patent number: 7201560
Abstract: A packing ring holder assembly for packing seal segments about a steam turbine rotor includes a nozzle box and a holder cooperable to form a dovetail for securing packing ring segments to the nozzle box. A spring is interposed between the nozzle box and packing ring segment to bias the latter radially inwardly for sealing with the rotor. The holder includes a shoulder for preventing axial movement of the spring in one direction.

  • Publication number: 20060151958
Abstract: A ring segment (100) used to form a packing ring (6). The segment comprises an arcuate shaped piece interfitting with similar pieces to form an effective seal both between adjacent stages of a turbine (1), and an end stage (2) of the turbine and the atmosphere. Each ring segment has a step (14, 15) formed at each end of the segment for interfacing the segment with an adjacent ring segment. The steps are formed on opposite sides of the ring segment and allow adjacent segments to readily interface with each other because an oversize of resulting butt gap (16) is formed between them. This eliminates rework of the segments to assemble the ring, insures a quality seal is affected, and reduces the time the turbine is off-line.
