  • Publication number: 20060291253
Abstract: A light-guide plate (LGP) includes a light-incident surface, a light-facing surface, a light-emitting surface and a light-reflecting surface. The light-incident surface receives light. The light-facing surface has a smaller size than that of the light-incident surface. The light-facing surface faces the light-incident surface. The light-emitting surface is extended substantially perpendicular to the upper side of the light-incident surface. The light-emitting surface is connected to the upper edge of the light-facing surface. The light-reflecting surface has a plurality of first prism patterns that are formed parallel with the light-incident surface. The light-reflecting surface is extended from the base of the light-incident surface to be connected to the base of the light-facing surface. Therefore, a leakage of light that exits from the wedge-type LGP through a side surface of the wedge-type LGP is decreased, so that luminance is enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20060077547
Abstract: A diffusing reflective polarizing film has a liquid crystal film and a diffusing layer. The liquid crystal film includes a cholesteric liquid crystal diffusely reflecting a first component of a light substantially in parallel with a twisted axis of the cholesteric liquid crystal and transmitting a second component of the light different from the first component. The diffusing layer is attached to the liquid crystal layer to diffuse light from the liquid crystal layer. Thus, the diffusely reflective polarizing film may improve brightness uniformity, thereby preventing a warping phenomenon of the diffusely reflective polarizing film.

  • Publication number: 20040160402
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display. In the invention, the digital data signals for different pixels are converted to analog signals based on color-specific gray voltages. By providing color-specific gray voltages, the invention corrects any bias stemming from different electro-optical characteristics of different-colored pixels. In one embodiment, the invention includes a signal controller for generating digital data signals for different pixel colors and a gray voltage generator for generating gray voltage signals that are specific to the different pixel colors. A data driver, which is coupled to the gray voltage generator and the signal controller, converts each one of the digital signals to a corresponding analog signal by using one of the gray voltage signals that is associated with the same pixel color as the digital signal that is being converted.
