  • Patent number: 8369465
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for estimating a frequency offset in a wireless telecommunication system. The present invention does not estimate an initial frequency offset using a preamble which is the initial symbol of a frame upon estimation of the frequency offset in the wireless telecommunication system, but estimates a frequency offset using correlation of a cyclic prefix (CP) existing in each symbol, thereby eliminating a need to reproduce information about separate preamble signals and preamble signals, and easily estimating a frequency offset using only input signals.

  • Patent number: 8027412
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for detecting a boundary of a frame in a wireless communication system. The apparatus includes: a controller for measuring correlation energy with preambles with respect to received signals transmitted from a transmitter, measuring strength of the received signals, and removing a sample from frames constituting the received signals, the preambles predetermined and used by the system, the sample having a ratio of the correlation energy with respect to the strength of the received signals, the ratio being smaller than a reference value; and a classifier for extracting a maximum value from the correlation energy received from the controller, and determining a boundary of a downlink of the frames constituting the received signals.

  • Publication number: 20080317176
Abstract: The present invention relates to an automatic gain control apparatus and method in a wireless telecommunication system which measures the strength of received signals using preamble symbols and automatically control the gain of an amplifier based on the measurement results. The automatic gain control apparatus and method according to present invention performs automatic gain control of measuring sample power in a sample unit for input signals, acquiring a sample power average value during a unit symbol period, detecting a maximum value during one frame period for the acquired sample power average value and then calculating a gain control value based on it.

  • Publication number: 20080299983
Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for measuring a carrier-to-interference-and-noise ratio (CINR) using a downlink preamble in a digital communication system. More particularly, provided are an apparatus and method that measure CINRs using preambles of received signals respectively corresponding to a plurality of cells or sectors and perform handover and reverse power control using the CINRs in a digital communication system employing an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique or orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technique. According to the apparatus and method, it is possible to easily measure CINRs and perform handover and reverse power control using the measured CINRs. Therefore, deterioration in performance can be reduced even in a poor channel environment by maintaining a CINR received by a base station at an appropriate level.
