  • Patent number: 9147426
Abstract: Provided are an optical pickup and an optical information storage system including the same. The optical pickup includes a diffracting element that splits incident light into main light and a plurality of sub light. The diffracting element has at least three regions including first through third regions. A second region is disposed between a first region and a third region and has a phase difference from the first and third regions. The optical pickup detects a tracking error signal by using light diffracted by the diffracting element.

  • Patent number: 9013965
Abstract: Provided are an optical pickup device and an optical disk drive including the same. The optical pickup device includes a quarter-wave plate (QWP) that is disposed parallel to an objective lens and a reflection mirror that reflects a beam back onto the QWP after the beam passed through the QWP. The optical pickup device also includes a polarization mirror that is disposed between the objective lens and the QWP, and which reflects the beam which is generated from a light source onto the QWP, and allows the beam reflected by the reflection mirror to pass through to the objective lens.

  • Patent number: 8984543
Abstract: Provided is an optical pickup device that compensates for an aberration caused by a beam splitter. When a beam of light is reflected from a disc and proceeds towards a beam splitter, the beam splitter is designed to allow the reflected beam to pass therethrough. However, the beam splitter can cause an astigmatism in the reflected beam due to diffraction. According to various aspects herein, an optical pickup device may include a compensation device that generates an inverse astigmatism to compensate for the astigmatism generated by the beam splitter.

  • Patent number: 8824253
Abstract: Provided are an optical pickup and an optical system using the same. The optical pickup may include an aperture that is disposed at a side where a light beam is incident on an objective lens. The aperture may limit a range of the light beam such that a width of the light beam incident on the objective lens in a first direction is less than a width in a second direction that is perpendicular to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 8750087
Abstract: An optical pickup device corresponding to a plurality of media is provided. The optical pickup device includes a light emitting system and a light receiving system including a plurality of light sources and a light transmission system shared by the light emitting system and the light receiving system, configured to irradiate light on a medium, and receive light reflected from the medium. The light transmission system irradiates light from the light emitting system to be appropriately focused on the medium, receives light reflected from the medium, and transports light to the light receiving system. The light transmission system includes one beam splitter corresponding to the light emitting system and the light receiving system and a position-changing collimating lens shared to correspond to a plurality of media. The position-changing collimating lens is disposed between the beam splitter and the medium, the position being controlled according to optical characteristics of the media.

  • Publication number: 20130194906
Abstract: Provided are an optical pickup and an optical system employing the optical pickup. The optical pickup includes a twin light source. In various aspects, a length between the two light sources of a twin light source is reduced while the magnification of the optical pickup is increased, in comparison to a conventional optical pickup. Accordingly, a manufacturing cost of the optical pickup may be reduced.
