  • Patent number: 7542228
Abstract: In a method for writing data to a disk drive, a selected portion of a surface of a rotating disk of the disk drive is contacted with a designated contact region of a slider. An aspect of the contact is controlled to regulate frictional heating of the selected portion such that a magnetic field required to write data to the selected portion is reduced to a level which permits writing of data in the selected portion. Data is written on a frictionally heated track in the selected portion.

    Filed: August 30, 2007
Date of Patent: June 2, 2009
Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.
