Abstract: An upright electrical connector (100) includes an insulative housing (1) having a base portion (11) defining a mounting face (102), a first and a second tongue portions (312, 322) defining a mating face (101) and extending beyond the base portion; a number of first and second contacts (21, 20) retained in the insulative housing, the first contacts having first contacting portions (212) held in an inner surface of the first tongue portion, the second contacts having second contacting portions (202) held in an inner surface of the second tongue portion; an inner shell (5) mounted to the base portion, the inner shell defining four upwardly-extending side walls (51) enclosing the first and the second tongue portions to form an inner receiving space (53) being open through the mating face; and an outer shell mounted to the base portion, the outer shell comprising four upwardly-extending side walls (61) enclosing the base portion; the first and the second tongue portions are perpendicular to the mounting face.

Abstract: An electrical connector for non-USB protocol includes an insulative tongue plate portion and a vertical portion extending perpendicularly from a lateral edge of the tongue plate portion. The width of the tongue plate portion extending along a transverse direction is much shorter than what of a corresponding standard USB connector. The thickness of the tongue plate portion extending in a vertical direction perpendicular to the transverse direction is the same as what of a corresponding standard USB connector. Under this circumstance, tongue plate portion and the vertical portion can be easily manufactured by a little improvement of the existing USB mold.

Abstract: An upright electrical connector for mounting on a PCB includes a bas portion, a first and second mating plate retained in the base portion, a number of first and second contacts held in the first and second mating plate, respectively, an inner shield mounted to the base portion to shield the first and second contacts and an outer shield mounted to the base portion to enclose the inner shield therein. The first and second mating plate includes a first and second tongue portion. The first and second contacts are supported in an inner surface of the first and second tongue portion. An arrangement of the first and a second tongue portions, the first and a second contacts, the inner shield and the outer shield are arranged to configured to a standard IEEE 1394B interface. The first and second tongue portion are perpendicular to the PCB.

Abstract: A portable storage device (1) includes a memory device with a USB interface (20) and a protective cap (30) detachably mated with the USB interface. The USB interface may be a conventional one, which has a metal shell (21) defined pair of holes (213) therein. The protective cap has a case (31), a spring member (34) mounted therein and a button (33) engaged the spring member. The spring member defines a hook section (343) thereon to engage with the hole of the USB interface. To press said button inwardly disengages the hook section of the spring member from the hole of the USB connector, thereby detaching the USB interface from the cap.
