  • Patent number: 6737914
Abstract: A method for removing effects of gain and phase mismatch in amplification branches of a linear amplification using nonlinear components (LINC) system. The method includes receiving an input signal, calculating a relative phase and gain difference in the amplification branches, and generating phasing components. The input signal is then controllably separated into a plurality of branch signals of different but constant envelope. The mismatch between branches may cause each branch signal to have a different envelop. The phases of the branch signals are then appropriately adjusted in a certain amount of corresponding phasing components, such that when the branch signals are recombined, the combined signal substantially replicates the input signal.

  • Publication number: 20030035470
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus to remove the adverse effects due to the imbalance between in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) channels for I-Q demodulators and modulators in multi-carrier systems. A first balancer generates a first balancing signal from a first signal of a first index corresponding to a first frequency. A first combiner combines the first balancing signal and a second signal of a second index corresponding to a second frequency. The second frequency is symmetrical to the first frequency with respect to a center frequency in a multi-carrier composite signal. The first combiner generates a first balanced signal corresponding to the second frequency.

  • Publication number: 20020085651
Abstract: A frequency and timing offset adjustment system for a digital signal without changing the local oscillator frequency and the local sampling clock frequency. The frequency offset adjustment system includes a sine function look-up table, an interpolator, and an adjusting element. The look-up table provides sine sample values at an interval close enough to produce said sine sample values with sufficient accuracy, but far enough to enable reduction in size of the look-up table. For timing adjustment, a mechanism enables selection of an appropriate set of samples for a current symbol based on observation of accumulated timing error.

  • Patent number: 6011360
Abstract: A ballast including an inverter and a circuit having a resonant frequency coupled to the output of the inverter. In one embodiment of the invention, the only discrete type of element substantially affecting the resonant frequency is substantially inductive in electrical character. In this embodiment of the invention, there is also no discrete ballasting element in series with the lamp load. The reduction in discrete elements reduces both power consumption and costs associated with the ballast.

  • Patent number: 5907223
Abstract: An AC-AC ballast system for a discharge lamp (e.g., a fluorescent lamp), which includes a PFC converter which incorporates an isolation transformer, and a DC-AC inverter provided on the secondary side of the isolation transformer. Because the AC line input is isolated from the lamp load by the transformer in the PFC converter, the switching frequency of the PFC converter can be advantageously significantly higher than the lamp current frequency (and the switching frequency of the DC-AC inverter), to thereby enable a significant reduction in the size and weight of the ballast system, without an increase in the emission of EMI radiation from the lamp. In this regard, the ballast system of the present invention can be thought of as a two-frequency ballast system having an isolated PFC converter.
