    Abstract: A motor includes a stator having a winding that when selectively energized produces an electromagnetic field within a rotor cavity, and a rotor disposed within the rotor cavity of the stator and in electromagnetic communication with the winding and the electromagnetic field. The rotor includes a drive shaft, a rotor body that extends around the drive shaft and that defines a plurality of reluctance voids, and magnet inserts that are disposed within the reluctance voids. The magnet inserts occupy at least a portion of a space defined by the reluctance voids. The magnet inserts and the reluctance voids cooperate with the electromagnetic field to produce an electromagnetic torque.
