Patent number: 10353435Abstract: Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic device, such as a notebook computer or laptop, that includes a circuit board coupled to a plurality of electronic components (which includes any type of components, elements, circuitry, etc.). One particular example implementation of the electronic device may include a keyboard portion that includes a plurality of keys; a display portion that includes a first display interconnect for operating the electronic device in a first configuration, and a second display interconnect for operating the electronic device in a second configuration; and a docking portion that includes a keyboard interconnect configured to be mated with at least one of the first display interconnect and the second display interconnect.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2013Date of Patent: July 16, 2019Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Shanjun Deng, Hong W. Wong, Xiaoguo Liang, Jiancheng Johnson Tao, Wah Yiu Kwong

Patent number: 10224598Abstract: In an example, a mobile computing device such as a tablet, laptop, or convertible is operable to couple to a docking station via high-frequency wireless such as WiGig at 60 GHz. Because high-frequency signals are highly directional, the mobile computing device is provided with a high-frequency antenna operable as a rotor. In one embodiment, the antenna is freely hinged to a gravitational pivot, and pivots toward the docking station responsive to gravitational torque. In another embodiment, an actuator drives the antenna to a correct angle responsive to a rotational sensor. In this case, an angle sweep may be performed around a midpoint to identify a best angle for high-frequency communication.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2014Date of Patent: March 5, 2019Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Hong W. Wong, Wah Yiu Kwong, Jiancheng Johnson Tao, Xiaoguo Liang, Songnan Yang

Publication number: 20190050101Abstract: Computing devices and at least one machine readable medium for controlling the functioning of a touch screen are described herein. The computing device includes a touchscreen having one or more force sensors. The computing device also includes first logic to detect a force applied to the touchscreen via the one or more force sensors and second logic to control a functioning of the touchscreen in response to the applied force.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2018Publication date: February 14, 2019Inventors: Jiancheng Johnson Tao, Hong W. Publication number: 20170277228Abstract: Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic device, such as a notebook computer or laptop, that includes a circuit board coupled to a plurality of electronic components (which includes any type of components, elements, circuitry, etc.). One particular example implementation of the electronic device may include a first housing, a hinge, and a second housing. The second housing can be rotatably coupled to the first housing using the hinge. The second housing can include a first portion, a second hinge, and a second portion. The second portion can be rotatably coupled to the first portion using the second hinge. In an embodiment, the second portion can rotate over the keyboard and the second housing can rotate behind the display. In another embodiment, the second portion can rotate over the key-board and the second housing can rotate in front of the display such that only a portion of display is visible.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2014Publication date: September 28, 2017Applicant: Intel CorporationInventors: Hong W.
