    Abstract: Embodiments of this application disclose an optical switch. The optical switch includes at least one first port, at least one second port, a first wavelength division multiplexing WDM apparatus, an optical splitter, an optical monitoring apparatus, and an optical switching apparatus. The first port is configured to transmit an input first optical signal to the first WDM apparatus, where the first optical signal is a multi-wavelength signal. The first WDM apparatus is configured to demultiplex the first optical signal. The optical splitter is configured to split a demultiplexed first optical signal to obtain a first sub-signal and a second sub-signal. The optical switching apparatus is configured to perform optical switching on the first sub-signal. The second port is configured to output a first sub-signal obtained after optical switching. The optical monitoring apparatus is configured to perform optical performance monitoring on the second sub-signal.

    Abstract: Methods for reducing contact resistance include performing a selective titanium silicide (TiSi) deposition process on a middle of the line (MOL) contact structure that includes a cavity in a substrate of dielectric material. The contact structure also includes a silicon-based connection portion at a bottom of the cavity. The selective TiSi deposition process is selective to silicon-based material over dielectric material. The methods also include performing a selective deposition process of a metal material on the MOL contact structure. The selective deposition process is selective to TiSi material over dielectric material and forms a silicide capping layer on the silicon-based connection portion. The methods further include performing a seed layer deposition process of the metal material on the contact structure.

    Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are described for generating an optical signal in an optical network. The apparatus comprises at least a first and a second laser configured to generate a first or second series of optical pulses respectively and a polarization beam combiner (PBC). The PBC is configured to receive the first and second series of optical pulses. Each optical pulse in the first series of optical pulses is received with a first state of polarization (SOP), and each optical pulse in the second series of optical pulses is received with a second SOP. The first SOP and second SOP is orthogonal with respect to each other, and the PBC is further configured to combine the first and second series of optical pulses and to output an un-polarized optical signal. The un-polarized optical signal may help to reduce or mitigate nonlinear optical impairments caused by polarization of the optical signal.
