  • Patent number: 10225122
Abstract: Dual sub-carrier modulation (DCM) is introduced in high efficiency (HE) WLAN. DCM is a solution to deal with narrow band interferences and for range extension. DCM can introduce frequency diversity into OFDM systems by transmitting the same information on two subcarriers separated in frequency. If DCM is applied, then the transmitter modulates the same encoded bits onto two separated subcarriers with the same or different constellation mapping schemes. DCM suffers from a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In accordance with one novel aspect, a method of transmitting and encoding a HE PPDU frame with binary phase shift keying (BPSK) DCM and lower PAPR is proposed.

  • Patent number: 10211948
Abstract: A new lower density parity check (LDPC) tone mapper is proposed when DCM is applied for a given resource unit (RU) when LDPC is used as the channel control coding. For HE PPDU transmission with DCM, LDPC encoded streams are first modulated by a DCM constellation mapper. The modulated symbols of the lower half of the frequency segment and the modulated symbols of the upper half of the frequency segment are modulated using the same LDPC encoded bits using DCM mapping. The modulated symbols of the lower half of the frequency segment are mapped to lower half of the data subcarriers using DCM LDPC tone mapper. The modulated symbols of the upper half of the frequency segment are mapped to upper half of the data subcarriers using the same DCM LDPC tone mapper. Maximum frequency diversity for DCM can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 10206122
Abstract: A method of direction finding (DF) positioning in a wireless location area network (WLAN) is proposed. A multiple antenna IEEE 802.11 transmitting device can transmit signal preamble containing multiple Long Training Field (LTF) symbols in a radio frame from multiple antennas simultaneously, which allows a receiving device to resolve multiple DF sounding signals transmitted from the multiple antennas. As a result, angle of departure (AoD) of the transmitting device can be estimated by using the multiple resolved DF sounding signals from each antenna for DF positioning purpose.

  • Patent number: 10200228
Abstract: A method of interleaver design for dual carrier modulation (DCM) is proposed in a wireless network. For HE PPDU transmission with DCM, information bits are first encoded by a BCC encoder. The BCC encoded bit streams are then interleaved by a BCC interleaver. More specifically, the BCC interleaved bits are repeated on two halves of a given resource unit (RU). The BCC interleaver parameters are defined based on half of the total number of the data tones of the RU if DCM is applied. The BCC interleaved bits are then modulated and mapped to two halves of the RU by a DCM constellation mapper.

  • Patent number: 10187124
Abstract: A method of transmitting and receiving a HE PPDU and perform channel estimation enhancement is proposed. The HE PPDU comprises legacy preamble, HE-STF, HE-LTF, and data. A beam-change indication indicates if the pre-multiplied beamforming Q-matrix is changed from legacy preamble to H-SFT, HE-LTF, and data portion. A value of 1 indicates that Q matrix is changed. A value of 0 indicates that Q matrix is unchanged and receiver should be safe to combine L-LTF and HE-LTF. The beam-change indication can be used to significantly enhance channel estimation at receiver. When there is no beam-change, receiver does not change operation during HE-STF and HE-LTF such that the channel estimations can rely on the combination of L-LTFs, L-SIG, RL-SIG, HE-SIGAs and HE-LTF.

  • Patent number: 10178686
Abstract: A method of channel contention procedure with CCA level enhancement is proposed. A wireless device initiates an EDCA channel contention procedure to gain access to the wireless medium. The device determines an intended TX channel width and performs primary channel CCA using a set of CCA levels based on the intended TX channel width for determining channel idle or busy condition in the EDCA procedure. Upon gaining access, the device performs secondary channel CCA and thereby determining a final TX channel width. The device transmits radio signals using the final TX channel width and a TX spectral power density, which is adjusted to be corresponding to the intended TX channel width. By raising CCA levels to be based on the intended transmission channel width, the likelihood of wide channel width transmission is increased. As a result, significant network throughput increase can be accomplished in dense deployment scenarios.

  • Patent number: 10128921
Abstract: System and method of Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) Beamforming communication. An MU-MIMO BF training session is used to train all the responders in a user group in relation to an initiator having multiple antenna arrays. Accordingly, suitable TX-RX sector pairs are selected based on the training results, and the user group is arranged into subsets such that the initiator can transmit data to the responders in one subset simultaneously by using mutually orthogonal BF waveforms. Prior to the MU-MIMO BF training session, the initiator can select TX sectors of the TX antennas and responders for the training session based on results from a prior or preliminary SISO BF training.

  • Publication number: 20180309605
Abstract: Systems and methods of expanding indication capabilities of existent PPDU preamble fields. An existing field “Doppler mode” in a preamble is redefined into a dual-use field for indicating channel variation for a short packet as well as for indicating presence of mid-amble(s) in a long packet. Particularly, for a long packet (longer than a predefined data transmission time or a longer than a predefined number of data symbols), the two possible values of the one-bit “Doppler mode” field indicate whether there is any mid-amble carrying training symbols in the payload. On the other hand, for a short packet, the two possible values in the same field indicate whether the channel for transmitting the instant packet is currently time-variant as determined by the transmitting device.

  • Patent number: 10110361
Abstract: A method of sub-channel feedback in OFDMA systems is provided. A wireless receiving device (STA) receives a radio signal from a transmitting device (AP) over a wide channel in an OFDMA system. The radio signal is transmitted over multiple sub-channels of the wide channel. The STA estimates channel quality information based on the received radio signal for each sub-channel. The STA then sends feedback information to the transmitting device. The feedback information comprises the estimated channel quality information for a selected subset of sub-channels from the wide channel based on a predefined rule. In one embodiment, the feedback information is embedded within an ACK/BA frame or is carried in a frame immediately subsequent to the ACK/BA frame.

  • Publication number: 20180302130
Abstract: A method of sounding and feedback with channel quality information and reduced overhead is provided. A receiving station receives a sounding signal transmitted from an access point over multiple sub-channels of a wide channel in a wireless network. The receiving station detects channel quality based on the received sounding signal for each sub-channel. The receiving station then performs channel estimation based on the received sounding signal and thereby determining feedback information. Finally, the receiving station transmits a feedback message to the access point, the feedback message contains NULL feedback information, reduced feedback information, or channel integrity/quality indicators based on the channel quality information for each sub-channel. Based on the feedback message, the access point may repeat the sounding process, narrow the transmission bandwidth, or select only stations who have indicated uncorrupted channel sounding for MU-MMO transmission.

  • Patent number: 10104664
Abstract: A unified channel contention scheme is proposed such that spatial reuse can be enabled by a wireless station (STA) when a basic service set (BSS) color of a received signal cannot be resolved. If the detected frame is an intra-BSS frame, then the STA should not contend the channel for the PPDU duration. If the detected frame is an inter-BSS frame, then the STA uses OBSS Packet Detection (OBSS-PD) level as the CCA level for channel contention. Furthermore, when BSS color cannot be resolved, channel contention schemes for WiFi signal and non-WiFi signal are differentiated. If the received signal is detected as WiFi signal, then the STA uses WiFi-SIG Detection (WD) level as the CCA level for channel contention. If the received signal is detected as non-WiFi signal, then the STA uses Non-WiFi-SIG Detection (NWD) level as the CCA level for channel contention.

  • Publication number: 20180295578
Abstract: Systems and methods of transmitting and receiving a Wake-Up Radio (WUR) packet by using a simplified preamble structure that contains no training field. The preamble carries a signature sequence selected from a set of predefined sequences, each corresponding to a different data transmission rate. The preamble and the control information of the WUR packet are transmitted in the same rate as indicated by the selected sequence. Hence, a receiving WUR can determine the data transmission rate and locate the associated control information directly if a sequence that matches a predefined signature sequence is detected. The same sequence or in combination with an additional sequence in the preamble may also be used to indicate automatic gain control synchronization, packet type and other related information.

  • Patent number: 10091822
Abstract: A method of improved allocation of uplink resources in an OFDMA network is proposed. A wireless communications station (an AP) reserves both dedicated resource and contention resource for uplink OFDMA operation for a list of communications devices (STAs). The AP can switch between random access operation and non-random access operation without the need for any special protection mechanisms. In the event of an increase in uplink OFDMA frame collisions the AP can switch from random operation to non-random operation to reduce the number of collisions. In the event of a decrease in uplink OFDMA frame collisions the AP can switch from non-random operation to random operation to reduce required AP processing. The AP can also dynamically control a STA access probability to reduce the number of collisions by reducing the number of uplink OFDMA frames each STA transmits.

  • Publication number: 20180184379
Abstract: Systems and methods of transmitting a multi-user (MU) wake-up packet in WLAN including wake-up signals to activate main radios on multiple communication devices via the wake-up radios (WURs). In the multi-user wake-up packet, a frequency channel can be divided into several sub-channels for transmitting multiple wake-up signals in FDMA. Each wake-up signal is modulated in ON/OFF Key modulation. Two adjacent wake-up signals are adequately spaced apart by a certain frequency spacing to reduce adjacent channel interferences. Once a WUR on a receive device receives the packet, it generates a wake-up indication to wake up the main radio for active data communication. The MU wake-up packet may also include a sequence of multiple wake-up signals transmitted using the same sub-channel and cascaded in a time-domain. A reconfiguration window may be inserted between consecutive wake-up signals on the same sub-channel, and between a legacy preamble and the following wakeup signals.

  • Patent number: 9992797
Abstract: A method to improve channel access opportunity for wide bandwidth transmission in wireless local area networks is proposed. The method allows different clear channel assessment (CCA) thresholds for different transmission channel bandwidth. During a primary channel CCA process, a low CCA threshold level is applied for an intended narrow transmission channel bandwidth, while a high CCA threshold level is applied for an indented wide transmission channel bandwidth. In addition to the “all bandwidth transmission branch” that is based on the low CCA level, the “wide bandwidth transmission branch” is based on the high CCA level, which increases the opportunity for channel access by raising the CCA levels based on intended transmission channel bandwidths. As a result, the likelihood of wide channel transmission is increased.
