Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for setting a language type. In the method, a language type corresponding to a multimedia file to be played is read; and the multimedia file is played according to the language type. The technical solution solves the technical problems of inconvenient operation and poor usability existing in a mode of setting language types of multimedia files in the related art, reduces a setting process required each time when a user plays the multimedia file, and improves the experience of the user.

The method comprises: a type of identification information to be stored is determined, wherein the identification information is used for indicating pause playing or exit playing when a first set top box plays a file, and the type includes at least one of the followings: a sharing type and a private type; and triggering a second set top box to perform a playing operation corresponding to the identification information, so that the flexible and various storing modes of identification information about breakpoint play are realized, and the requirements for multi-scenario breakpoint play in a Whole Home DVR are met.

In the disclosure, match fields are arranged in a set-top box and a service message to be sent, the service message is sent by means of broadcast or multicast, the set-top box performs matching for the match fields based on the match rule, and filters the message. The disclosure avoids sending a service message by means of unicast, increases the push efficiency and can greatly reduce the storage load of offline messages in a message system. The formed message may be sent according to a single or combined policy which depends on a specific service attribute, thereby greatly facilitating the service operation.
