Using gyroscope data of the mobile device, the physical camera orientation of the mobile device may be estimated over time. Using the physical camera orientation and historical data, corresponding virtual camera orientations representing a camera orientation with undesired rotational movement removed may be modeled using a non-linear filter to provide for mapping of a real image to a stabilized virtual image. The virtual camera orientation may be modified to prevent undefined pixels from appearing in the output image.

    Abstract: Focus detection is to determine whether an image is in focus or not. Focus detection is able to be used for improving camera autofocus performance. Focus detection by using only one feature does not provide enough reliability to distinguish in-focus and slightly out-of-focus images. A focus detection algorithm of combining multiple features used to evaluate sharpness is described herein. A large image data set with in-focus and out-of-focus images is used to develop the focus detector for separating the in-focus images from out-of-focus images. Many features such as iterative blur estimation, FFT linearity, edge percentage, wavelet energy ratio, improved wavelet energy ratio, Chebyshev moment ratio and chromatic aberration features are able to be used to evaluate sharpness and determine big blur images.

There may be a particular baseline distance between the first image capture component and the second image capture component, and at least one of the first image capture component or the second image capture component may have a focal length. A disparity may be determined between a portion of the scene as represented in the first image and the portion of the scene as represented in the second image. Possibly based on the disparity, the particular baseline distance, and the focal length, a focus distance may be determined. The first image capture component and the second image capture component may be set to focus to the focus distance.

The cochlear prosthesis is attached by a grommet to the cochleostomy that is made from a single piece of biocompatible polymer. The device, designed to achieve optimum neural stimulation by appropriate electrode design, is a significant improvement over commercially available hand-built devices.

    Abstract: A technique for estimating background motion in monocular video sequences is described herein. The technique is based on occlusion information contained in video sequences. Two algorithms are described for estimating background motion: one fits well for general cases, and the other fits well for a case when available memory is very limited. The significance of the technique includes: a motion segmentation algorithm with adaptive and temporally stable estimate of the number of objects is developed, two algorithms are developed to infer occlusion relations among segmented objects using the detected occlusions and background motion estimation from the inferred occlusion relations.
