  • Patent number: 7343155
Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention relate to the general area of wireless communication systems and, in particular, to channel estimation for joint detection of data signals in TD-SCDMA systems. While time slots and spreading codes separate the users in a TD-SCDMA system, multiple access interference affects all its users. To deal with this problem detection schemes such as joint detection are used, which process all users' signals in parallel and include the interference information from all the users. An important part of the joint detection process is channel estimation and, as such, affects the detection process in different ways. In general, the more accurate the channel estimation is, the better the system performance will be. This invention presents methods and systems for channel estimation of TD-SCDMA systems.

  • Patent number: 7245878
Abstract: A method of detecting a silent frame at a mobile station in a GSM transmission is disclosed. The method comprises first receiving a data burst intended for the mobile station. Then, a signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) is determined for the data burst. If the SINR is below a predetermined threshold, then the data burst is determined as from a silent frame.

  • Patent number: 7171162
Abstract: A method of frequency estimation for a GSM communications system is disclosed. First, the a frequency control channel data burst is received and downsampled into a plurality of subsets. Then, the subsets are filtered using an auto-regressive filter. The filtered subsets are then correlated and summed to determine a parameter r. The estimated frequency is calculated based upon the parameter r.

  • Publication number: 20050141651
Abstract: The present disclosure provides simple methods and systems for generating modified branch metrics for the Viterbi decoder so that the decoder can decode the uncorrelated incoming signals without the influence of either the signal power level or the noise variance. The proposed branch metrics noticeably improve the performance of the Viterbi algorithm in such cases. The present disclosure also provides methods and systems for reducing the length of the demodulated symbols for efficient computation. In an exemplary method, it is shown that the only requirement of the proposed modified branch metric, in addition to the traditional branch metric requirements, is the computation of the noise energy. In another exemplary system, an arrangement of circuit modules offers an implementation of one of the embodiments of the proposed method.
