Patent number: 12067737Abstract: A method of determining macrotexture of an object is disclosed which includes obtaining a plurality of stereo images from an object by an imaging device, generating a coordinate system for each image of the plurality of stereo images, detecting one or more keypoints each having a coordinate in each image of the plurality of stereo images, wherein the coordinate system is based on a plurality of ground control points (GCPs) with apriori position knowledge of each of the plurality of GCPs, generating a sparse point cloud based on the one or more keypoints, reconstructing a 3D dense point cloud of the object based on the generated sparse point cloud and based on neighboring pixels of each of the one or more keypoints and calculating the coordinates of each pixel of the 3D dense point cloud, and obtaining the macrotexture based on the reconstructed 3D dense point cloud of the object.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2023Date of Patent: August 20, 2024Assignee: Purdue Research FoundationInventors: Jie Shan, Xiangxi Tian

Patent number: 12053645Abstract: Robust optimization systems and methods are provided for intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) that may be deployed in a clinically practical way to enable users to control the balance between nominal plan quality and plan robustness in a user-defined way. The method may include a normalized dose interval volume histogram (NDIVH)-based robust optimization, where the normalized dose interval (NDI) is calculated for each voxel considering dose variations in the face of uncertainties. It is then used to create a NDIVH. The area under this NDIVH curve may then be used to quantify plan robustness. By using normalized dose interval volume constraints (NDIVC) to control the shape of the NDIVH curves, plan robustness may be adjusted. The tradeoff between nominal plan quality and plan robustness can be modified in a user-defined way by adjusting positions of the NDIVCs on the NDIVH curves.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2019Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and ResearchInventors: Wei Liu, Jie Shan

Publication number: 20230390579Abstract: Radiation treatment planning for charged particle therapy systems, such as proton therapy systems, includes calculating dose distribution(s) using a virtual particle Monte Carlo (“VPMC”) dose calculation engine that utilizes virtual particles. Virtual particles inherit the physical properties from realistic particles, but are conceptually designed for parallel computing in graphics processing units (“GPUs”) by avoiding the simulation of secondary particles. Simulation of virtual particles instead of realistic particles takes full advantage of the GPU hardware architecture (e.g., by avoiding thread divergence and racing conditions).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2022Publication date: December 7, 2023Inventors: Wei Liu, Jie Shan

Publication number: 20120055075Abstract: A 3D insect device is described which comprises a preferably water-resistant body that can assume a folded position and then unfolded to expand into a true 3-dimensional structure with one or more elements to either attract or repel flying nuisance and pest insects like flies, mosquitoes, moths, beetles etc or to attract beneficial insects. The structure preferably simulates comparable shape, size and color as occurring in nature, having significant effects on the instincts of the target insects. The 3D device shape is supplemented with one or more of insect attractant colors, tacky agents, food attractants, pheromones, fragrances and aromas, insecticides, and repellents. Water-resistant, preferably biodegradable materials permit both indoor and outdoor use. The device design significantly improves convenience of use while reducing unintended contact of non-targets such as users, children, pets or wildlife with the contact surfaces.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2011Publication date: March 8, 2012Inventors: Constanze Winkler, Herman L. Patent number: 5317010Abstract: Analogues of bovine and human parathyroid hormone, wherein twenty-fifth, twenty-six and twenty-seventh positions of the natural hormone, Arg-Lys-Lys- each have been substituted with Ala, Asn, Asp, Cys, Gln, Glu, Gly, His, Ile, Leu, Met, Phe, Pro, Ser, Thr, Trp, Tyr or Val have been found to retain bone cell effect with minimal effects on blood pressure and smooth muscle, including cardiac muscle. It has further been found that this effect can be obtained by using a synthetic PTH containing only the first 34 amino acids of PTH, with substitution at the twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh amino acids as described. These analogues of PTH also are effective in the treatment of osteoporosis and other bone diseases.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1991Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Peter K. T.
