  • Publication number: 20170167219
Abstract: A variable ram for a blowout preventer is disclosed. The variable ram includes a ram block and a ram packer assembly disposed at least in part within the ram block. The ram packer assembly includes a plurality of inserts and a packer member. The plurality of inserts is configured to form an insert array, where the insert array includes a peripheral surface, and where the peripheral surface of the insert array is disposed facing an opening configured to receive a tubular member. The packer member is coupled to at least a portion of the plurality of inserts for providing a unitary structure to the ram packer assembly, where the packer member protrudes from the peripheral surface of the insert array into the opening to define a bore face of the variable ram, and where the packer member includes an elastomeric material.

  • Publication number: 20170159826
Abstract: A seal assembly for a submersible pumping system is presented. The seal assembly includes a housing and a support tube disposed within the housing. Further, the seal assembly includes a shape memory alloy (SMA) foil disposed within the housing, surrounding the support tube to define a first chamber between the shape memory alloy foil and the support tube. The first chamber is configured to store a motor fluid, and wherein the shape memory alloy foil is configured to restrict a flow of a wellbore fluid to the motor fluid.

  • Publication number: 20170159414
Abstract: A seal assembly for a submersible pumping system is presented. The seal assembly includes a support tube configured to surround a shaft. Further, the seal assembly includes a first bag positioned surrounding the support tube to define a first chamber between the first bag and the support tube, wherein the first chamber is configured to contain a motor fluid. Also, the seal assembly includes a second bag positioned surrounding the first bag to define a second chamber between the first bag and the second bag. In addition, the seal assembly includes an impermeable device disposed in the second chamber and configured to isolate the motor fluid from a wellbore fluid.

  • Publication number: 20170159392
Abstract: A variable ram packer includes a body with a bore contact region, at least one fluidic flexible matrix component (FFMC) tube, an inflation mechanism, and a fluid port. The FFMC tube is positioned inside the body next to the bore contact region. The fluid port is fluidly coupled with a connecting line, which is fluidly coupled with the inflation mechanism. The FFMC tube inflates in response to an increase in pressure from the inflation mechanism, which translates the bore contact region inward.

  • Publication number: 20170159391
Abstract: A variable ram packer includes a body including two contact regions. The first contact region includes a region of the body of the packer that includes a first material and a second material, layered on top of one another. The first material has an elastic modulus less than that of the second material. The second contact region includes the second material and a third material, layered on top of one another. The third material has an elastic modulus greater than that of the second material, but less than that of the first material.

  • Publication number: 20160145981
Abstract: A gas lift valve assembly includes a housing and a check valve. The housing defines an inlet port and an outlet port, and includes an inner casing having a radial outer surface and a radial inner surface at least partially defining a main flow passage. The check valve includes a sealing mechanism disposed around the radial outer surface of the inner casing, and a valve member including an outwardly extending sealing segment. The valve member is moveable between an open position and a closed position in which the sealing segment sealingly engages the sealing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5921152
Abstract: Successive roll stands in a rolling mill are driven at selectively different drive speed ratios by a transmission system having a pair of drive shafts and a least one idler shaft journalled for rotation about parallel axes. First and second gear trains each include intermeshed drive gears freely rotatable on the drive shafts, and a pair of idler gears on the idler shaft; each being in meshed engagement with at least one of the drive gears of each drive train. Clutches operated to selectively couple the drive gears of the first and second drive trains with their respective drive shafts.
