  • Publication number: 20220095093
Abstract: A device can determine, based on a first packet flow associated with a first user device and application identifiers associated with applications accessible by the first user device, that a first packet associated with the first packet flow is destined for a low-latency application having a specified latency range. The device can identify a first low-latency bearer that satisfies the specified latency range associated with the low-latency application. The device can map the first packet flow to the first low-latency bearer.

  • Publication number: 20220086656
Abstract: Systems and methods provide reliable voice connections dual-connectivity environments, given limitations of available spectrum. A system includes a first wireless station and a second wireless station. The first wireless station provides a shared spectrum of a first frequency band, the shared spectrum including a first spectrum for a first cellular wireless standard and a second spectrum for a second cellular wireless standard. The second wireless station is at least partially within a coverage area of the first wireless station and provides a third spectrum for the second cellular wireless standard. The third spectrum is a millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum. The first wireless station broadcasts a parameter barring an end device in an idle mode from camping on the second spectrum. The first wireless station or the second wireless station triggers the end device to swap to the second spectrum when a paging request for a voice call is received.

  • Patent number: 11259218
Abstract: A system described herein may provide a technique for maintaining and transferring context information for a Dual Connectivity (“DC”)-capable User Equipment (“UE”) and a secondary Next Generation Node B (“gNB”) in situations where the UE is connected to a primary gNB and the secondary gNB and is handed over to an evolved Node B (“eNB”). The context information may be provided to the eNB without releasing resources or tearing down bearers at the secondary gNB, such that the UE may seamlessly continue communicating with the secondary gNB while a primary connection associated with the UE is handed over from the primary gNB to the eNB.

  • Publication number: 20220046758
Abstract: A controller may create pseudo-slices to provide differentiated levels of service and/or execution of services at different edge locations within an Evolved Packet Core (“EPC”) network based on existing identifiers that are used to configure control plane and/or user plane function of the network. Each pseudo-slice may allow User Equipment (“UE”) to directly exchange user plane traffic with remote nodes in the core network for latency insensitive services, or with local nodes at the closer edge locations for low latency services. The different classes of service provided by the controller may be based on an Access Point Name (“APN”), Quality-of-Service Class Identifier (“QCI”), Service Provider Identifier (“SPID”), Allocation and Retention Priority (“ARP”), and/or other request or profile identifiers. The controller may also create pseudo-slices to leverage Fifth Generation (“5G”) connectivity when exchanging the user plane traffic in an EPC network that supports 5G Non-Standalone Access (“NSA”).

  • Patent number: 11240815
Abstract: A device may receive a request, from a user equipment (UE), to connect to a network. The device may receive antenna information indicating that the UE has a single antenna, and the device may receive device type information indicating a device type of the UE or network resource requirements associated with the UE. The device may obtain network policy information, relating to the UE, based on the antenna information and/or the device type information. The network policy information may indicate one or more policy rules associated with allocating network resources. The device may determine a quantity of network resources to allocate based on the network policy information, and the device may allocate the quantity of network resources for the UE.

  • Publication number: 20220030417
Abstract: Systems and methods provide for network-based selection of a UE device's 5G operation mode. A network device in a wireless core network receives a policy query for a user equipment (UE) device. The UE device is capable of 5G non-standalone (NSA) and 5G standalone (SA) operation modes. The network device identifies one or more of subscription data for the UE device, stored network data associated with the UE device, or dynamic network data relevant to the UE device. The network device assigns, based on the identifying, a radio access technology/frequency selection and prioritization (RFSP) value for the UE device. The network device sends the RFSP value to an access management function in the wireless core network for controlling selection of the 5G NSA operation mode or 5G SA operation mode.

  • Patent number: 11229083
Abstract: Embodiments described herein may provide for the return (e.g., reconnection) of a User Equipment (“UE”) to a first radio access network (“RAN”) to which the UE was connected, after the UE has been redirected to a second RAN based on the occurrence of an event. The event may include a voice call placed by or to the UE. The return of the UE to the first RAN may occur based on a request from the UE, such as a request made via Radio Resource Control (“RRC”) messaging. The UE may make the request upon termination of the voice call. The first RAN may queue downlink data for the UE, received from a core network or some other source, based on receiving the request, in order to allow the UE to be instructed to connect to (e.g., be redirected to) the first RAN.

  • Patent number: 11223976
Abstract: A device can receive, from first user equipment, information that relates to a first application, where the information includes a plurality of S-NSSAI. The device can determine whether the plurality of S-NSSAI are configured as a group of associated S-NSSAI. The device can determine that a preference is to be given to one of: communication sessions associated with the first application relative to a communication session associated with a second application, that does not utilize multiple network slices, of the first user equipment or second user equipment; traffic flows associated with the first application relative to a traffic flow associated with the second application; or a plurality of network slices associated with the first application relative to a network slice associated with the second application. The device can perform one or more actions based on determining the preference to thereby facilitate a particular functionality of the first application.

  • Publication number: 20210399956
Abstract: A radio access network (RAN) node can receive, from a user equipment (UE), a request to establish a session associated with a low-latency service level agreement (SLA). The session can be mapped to a radio bearer associated with a network slice configured to support the low-latency SLA, wherein the network slice can include a RAN portion and a core network portion that are co-located at a RAN edge to support the low-latency SLA. The RAN node can provide information related to the radio bearer to a distributed unit (DU) associated with the RAN portion of the network slice and route traffic associated with the session through the network slice configured to support the low-latency SLA via the radio bearer mapped to the session. As such, the session can have a context maintained in the RAN portion and the core network portion of the network slice.

  • Patent number: 11202193
Abstract: A device can receive, from a node in a core network, application identifiers associated with applications accessible by a first user device. The application identifiers can be associated with latency requirements. The device can obtain, from the first user device, a first packet associated with a first packet flow. The device can compare information regarding the first packet flow, and the application identifiers to determine that the first packet is destined for a low-latency application having a specified latency range. The device can identify a first low-latency bearer that satisfies the specified latency range associated with the low-latency application. The device can map the first packet flow to the first low-latency bearer, and communicate packets, associated with the first packet flow, using the first low-latency bearer. The packets can include data packets communicated between an entity hosting the low-latency application and the first user device, while bypassing the core network.

  • Patent number: 11184084
Abstract: A system described herein may generate a map of ground stations and associated antenna beams along a flight path. Such map generation may include assigning a unique identifier to each antenna beam and associating an absolute or relative location to each beam. As an aircraft traverses the flight path, the map may be utilized to identify candidate serving ground stations and/or candidate antenna beams, whereby a likelihood of selection may be generated for each adjacent beam to a serving beam. The likelihood of selection may be calculated based on one or more predicted flight paths and associated confidence levels of the predicted flight paths. Flight paths may be predicted based on serving beam history, pre-defined flight path, and/or other relevant factors.
