  • Patent number: 8644264
Abstract: Methods and systems for estimating and canceling pilot interference in a wireless (e.g., CDMA) communication system. In one method, a received signal comprised of a number of signal instances, each including a pilot, is initially processed to provide data samples. Each signal instance's pilot interference may be estimated by despreading the data samples with a spreading sequence for the signal instance, channelizing the despread data to provide pilot symbols, filtering the pilot symbols to estimate the channel response of the signal instance, and multiplying the estimated channel response with the spreading sequence. The pilot interference estimates due to a plurality of interfering multipaths are accumulated to derive the total pilot interference, which is subtracted from the data samples to provide pilot-canceled data samples. These samples are then processed to derive demodulated data for each of at least one (desired) signal instance in the received signal.

  • Publication number: 20140016603
Abstract: Aspects describe utilizing a dedicated reference signal for supporting Network MIMO, distributed MIMO, Coordinated MultiPoint, and the like. A data modulation symbol is transmitting in the same direction as a pilot modulation symbol is transmitted. Two or more wireless devices can coordinate communications such that transmission of the same pilot modulation symbol and the same data modulation symbol are transmitted to a device in different directions, each direction associated with a wireless device and intended for a particular mobile device. Cluster-specific scrambling and/or user-group specific scrambling can be employed and a scrambling code can be communicated prior to transmission of the pilot modulation symbols and data modulation symbols.

  • Patent number: 8599763
Abstract: A method, apparatus, processing system, and computer program product enable association of mis-aligned subframes from a first and second downlink with one another, such that a HARQ acknowledgment message including jointly encoded feedback for the respective subframes can be correctly interpreted by the corresponding cells. Here, an RNC may provide an RRC message to the UE to associate particular subframes with one another. Further, the RNC may provide NBAP messages to the cells transmitting the downlink signals, so that the cells can associate the HARQ acknowledgment message with the appropriate subframe. Still further, additional signaling provides for changing the set of associated subframes when needed due to a drift in the timing offset between cells.

  • Patent number: 8565170
Abstract: Techniques for scheduling data transmission on multiple carriers in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a scheduler may receive requested power headrooms for multiple carriers from a user equipment (UE), one requested power headroom for each carrier. Each requested power headroom may be indicative of transmit power usable by the UE for transmission on an associated carrier. The scheduler may also receive queue information indicative of data to transmit by the UE. The scheduler may redistribute the requested power headrooms across the multiple carriers (e.g., based on water filling or greedy filling) to obtain redistributed power headrooms for the multiple carriers. The scheduler may schedule the UE for data transmission on the uplink based on the redistributed power headrooms and the queue information. The scheduler may obtain and send at least one granted power headroom for at least one carrier to the UE.

  • Patent number: 8537875
Abstract: Methods and systems for adjusting a forward link (FL) signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) are provided. In an example, a FL SINR is estimated for each user in a plurality of users, on at least one of each user's respective data rate control (DRC) message or each user's respective prior FL SINR value. The respective estimated FL SINR for a user in the plurality of users is increased, if, based on a reverse link acknowledge message, the user has decoded a packet before all symbols in the packet have been transmitted. Remaining control channel power is determined. The estimated FL SINR for all users in the plurality of users is increased if remaining control channel power is less than a low threshold. The estimated FL SINR for all users in the plurality of users is increased if the remaining control channel power is greater than a high threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130229935
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate cooperation strategy selection for a network multiple-in-multiple-out (N-MIMO) communication system. As described herein, one or more nodes in a communication system capable of N-MIMO communication can calculate marginal utilities, projected per-user rates, and/or other parameters corresponding to respective associated users. Based on these calculations, respective network nodes can perform user scheduling and selection, cell scheduling and selection, selection of a cooperation strategy (e.g., coordinated silencing, joint transmission, coordinated beamforming, etc.), and/or other operations to provide cooperative communication for respective users. As further described herein, projected rate calculation for a given user can be adjusted based on processing or channel implementation loss associated with the user, interference nulling capability of the user, or other factors.

  • Patent number: 8483119
Abstract: A wireless communication system transmits a data packet from a cell to a terminal and to a diversity relay. The diversity relay stores the data packet and, based on a state of an acknowledgement signal from the terminal indicating a failure of the terminal to receive and decode the data packet, determines that a subsequent data packet will be a retransmission and, in response, retrieves and transmits the stored data packet to the terminal, cooperative with the retransmission from the data packet from the cell to the terminal. Optionally, the diversity relay transmits pilot signals to the terminal and, optionally, modifies channel quality reports sent from the terminal to the cell.
