Abstract: The amount of energy generation and energy storage equipment connected to centralised grids by end users is expected to increase in the future. Electricity transformers/substations, have only limited capacity and are not designed for reverse energy flow due to electricity generation by an end user. The rising trend for home generation may cause damage to such transformers/substations, and may prove very costly to replace. The present invention relates generally to a microgrid control apparatus, method and system for controlling energy flow within a microgrid such that reverse flow through a transformer/substation is minimised.
