Two opposing lateral slits are cut into the main saddle piece to form straps. The saddle holds on to the bird by pulling each wing through the respective slit. Weather-resistant material such as reinforced scrim vinyl, Tyvek or other similar material is used. Additional text, color or designs may be printed directly onto the saddle material. Close-set ocelli may be added to depict the presence of predator eyes.
