  • Patent number: 8060604
Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating communication between IMS and non-IMS applications are introduced. A network agent may serve as a proxy between one or more client devices and an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) infrastructure. The network agent may transmit a monitoring program to a client device for execution on the client device. The monitoring program may collect data regarding communication applications executing on the client device, and then transmit this data to the network agent. From the collected data, the network agent preferably selects translation logic with which to translate between messages compatible with the communication applications executing on the client device and standardized communication applications executing in the IMS infrastructure.

  • Patent number: 7967212
Abstract: A network node in a communication path between a client station and a web content server determines or estimates a power consumption level associated with particular web content requested by the client station. The client station is preferably a wireless communications device operating on battery power. Based on the current battery level in the device, the battery type or total capacity, user preferences and determined or estimated power consumption level, the node sends a power consumption notification to the client station, either prior to or simultaneously with the transmission of the web content. The notification message alerts the user to the possibility of their battery being drawn down to a low level if they download the content, and thus allows the user to abort the download to preserve battery capacity.

  • Patent number: 7433970
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for determining whether a server-based application will execute in an acceptable manner and thereafter providing this information to a user. After receiving a request for service relating to a particular application, the method retrieves the operational requirements for the application, which include the service admission control, content admission control, network admission control, and data admission control formula and the performance boundaries. Next, the values of the parameters required to evaluate the operational requirements are retrieved. The values of content admission control, network admission control, and data admission control are then calculated and used in the service admission control formula to determine the service admission control value for the application. Thereafter, the service admission control value is compared to the application's performance boundaries to determine the manner in which application will execute.

  • Patent number: 7003295
Abstract: A communication system comprises a transmitter, receiver, communication device, and control system. The transmitter transmits a wireless registration signal within a maximum range. The receiver receives the wireless registration signal from the transmitter when in range of the transmitter. The receiver transfers registration information based on the wireless registration signal to a control system. The control system receives and processes the registration information from the receiver to identify the user. In response to identifying the user, the control system directs communications for the user to the communication device. The communication device is located near the receiver—less than the maximum range. The maximum range could be less than one-hundred feet or less than fifty feet.
