Abstract: An example method includes receiving data indicative of an asset identifier associated with a mechanical asset coupled to a communication device. The communication device is configured to retrieve data from a monitoring device of the mechanical asset. The method further includes receiving data indicative of a device type of the communication device, determining characteristics of an asset type based on the asset identifier data, and storing data indicative of the asset type, the determined characteristics, and the communication device type. Based on the determined characteristics and the communication device type, the method further includes determining a configuration for the communication device to retrieve the data from the monitoring device. The determined configuration is the communicated to the communication device.
