Abstract: After a mobile user connection is assigned a particular type of channel, a sliding window with a predetermined number of time intervals is established for that connection. For each of the time intervals in that sliding window, information associated with the type of channel supporting the mobile radio connection is determined. The associated information may include one or more parameters including the type of channel currently supporting the connection, an amount of data to be transmitted for the mobile user connection, a requested quality of service, etc. The information in the sliding window is analyzed for a pattern or trend. Different patterns or trends may be used to assist in making channel-type switching as well as other decisions, e.g., power regulation.
