Publication number: 20080054836Abstract: A reeving system for filming movies, sporting events, or any other activity that requires fluid movement of a camera or other object to any position within a defined volume of space. To accomplish positioning embodiments move an object throughout three-dimensional space by relocating one or more lines that are feed through a plurality of opposing sides of the object. These line(s) (e.g., a cable, rope, string, cord, wire, or any other flexible connective element) which support the object from above or below the object within a volume of space are arranged in way that allows the object to be rapidly moved to and from any location within the defined volume of space. For instance, the system may be arranged to perform dimensional movement using one line configured as an endless loop, one line configured as a half loop, two lines configured as endless loops or two lines configured as half loops.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 2, 2007Publication date: March 6, 2008Inventors: Jim Rodnunsky, S. MacDonald

Publication number: 20070152141Abstract: Uses line(s) to enable movement of an object through three-dimensional space having clearance limitations or obstructions over an area. Does not require large nearby support structures. The object coupled with the movement line(s) is/are supported by at least three support lines that are arranged about a perimeter of the area. The support system can enclose any area size or shape. Uses motorized line movement device to displace the lines in a direction determined by the rotation of the line movement devices. The lines are reeved through pulleys attached to the support rope system which direct the lines to the appropriate line movement devices. By appropriate reeving, the object can be controllably moved in three axes that are not required to be orthogonal using one or two lines.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2007Publication date: July 5, 2007Inventor: Jim Rodnunsky

Patent number: 7207277Abstract: Embodiments of the invention move objects throughout two-dimensional space by using a support rope that is coupled with both opposing sides of the platform. This rope controls the Y-axis motion and Z-axis motion of the platform and is designated the YZ movement rope. Displacing a portion of the YZ movement rope allows vertical displacement of the platform to be traversed. There is no need for a complex computer control system since the Z-axis displacement is substantially independent of horizontal movement over a coverage area serviced by the platform. In addition, since the rope is commanded from one point, distantly located motors and electrical cables are not required. Many types of useful devices may then be attached to the platform including devices that require external power or devices that possess their own power and are operated via wireless signals.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2003Date of Patent: April 24, 2007Assignee: Cablecam, LLCInventor: Jim Rodnunsky

Publication number: 20070056463Abstract: Moves objects through two/three dimensional space via at least one movement line coupled with opposing sides of a platform. The movement line(s) control the horizontal and vertical (Z-axis) motion of the platform. Displacing a portion of the movement line(s) allows vertical displacement of the platform. There is no need for complex computer control since Z-axis displacement is substantially independent of horizontal movement. Nested embodiments utilizing one or more line allow for three-dimensional movement of an object or angular displacement of the platform with respect to the vertical axis. A mounting beam for positioning and supporting the Z-axis and horizontal axis motors may also be positioned independently of the platform. Many useful devices may be attached to the platform. Some embodiments may utilize two lines to provide redundancy and some of these embodiments may only drive one of the two lines for Y axis movement.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2006Publication date: March 15, 2007Inventor: Jim Rodnunsky

Publication number: 20060275030Abstract: One or more embodiments of the invention enable the movement of an object through multiple environments such as liquid and gas for example using rope or cable. Various objects can be moved using one or more embodiments of the invention such as a human or camera for example. Displacing a camera vertically between environments while moving the camera horizontally allows for highly stable motion pictures to be taken using one or more embodiments of the invention. To enable this type of movement, embodiments of the invention are configured to move an object by relocating one or more lines that are coupled to a plurality of sides of the object. The lines can be any type of flexible connective material such as rope, cable, string, cord, wire or any other similar material.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2005Publication date: December 7, 2006Inventor: Jim Rodnunsky

Patent number: 6809495Abstract: Embodiments of the invention move objects throughout three-dimensional by using two supporting ropes each of which connects to both opposing sides of the payload. If one rope breaks, the payload gently travels to the middle of the coverage area in a safe manner, maintaining the given displacement in the other unbroken axis. One rope controls the X-axis motion of the platform and is designated the X movement rope. The other rope controls the Y-axis motion of the platform and is designated the Y movement rope. Displacing equal lengths of the X and Y movement ropes allows the Z-axis of the platform to be traversed. There is no need for a complex computer control system since the Z-axis displacement is substantially independent of X and Y axis movement over a coverage area serviced by the platform. In addition, since the ropes are commanded from one point, distantly located motors and electrical cables are not required.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2003Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: Cablecam International Inc.Inventor: Jim Rodnunsky

Publication number: 20040206715Abstract: Embodiments of the invention move objects throughout three-dimensional space. This is accomplished with two highlines which support skates that move along the highlines. The skates support a three sheave device which in turn supports a platform. The entire system is driven in three dimensions by a Y movement rope pair and an XZ movement rope. The Y movement rope pair moves a skate on each highline in the Y-axis direction. The X-axis and Z-axis motion of the platform is controlled by a single XZ movement rope. Increasing the deployed length of the XZ movement rope causes the platform to lower in the Z-axis direction, while decreasing the deployed length of the XZ movement rope causes the platform to rise. For embodiments that employ equal length highlines in a parallel configuration, there is no need for a control system since the Z-axis displacement is independent of X and Y-axis movement.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2003Publication date: October 21, 2004Applicant: CABLECAM INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventor: Jim Rodnunsky

Patent number: 5224426Abstract: An aerial cableway system for filming subjects in motion over moderate to long distances. An endless cable is tensioned between two support structures in an elongated loop. A cable carriage is suspended from the endless cable and is in contact with both segments of the endless cable at all times. Each segment of the endless cable passes through the cable carriage in opposite directions by wrapping 180.degree. around two drive sheaves for a total cumulative wrap of 360.degree.. Each drive sheave has associated with it a disc brake assembly. The endless cable is driven by a bull wheel mechanism which is located at the base of one of the support structures. As the endless cable is continuously driven the two segments travel in opposite directions. When the disc brakes on one side of the carriage are engaged, the drive sheaves are immobilized on one segment of the endless cable and the carriage is carried along in the direction that the grasped segment of the endless cable is traveling.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1991Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Cablecam Systems Ltd.Inventors: Jim Rodnunsky, Trou Bayliss
