  • Patent number: 9839590
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for improving the quality and durability of color in artificially colored hair. The methods employ alkaline earth metal salts that act as a mordant (a fixing agent) with hair dye and salts of hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids, which act as chelators. Methods are described wherein the alkaline earth metal salts or the salts of hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids are used in a pre-color treatment (a treatment to the hair prior to artificial coloring), used as part of a coloring composition, and used in a post-color treatment (a treatment to the hair after artificial coloring).

  • Patent number: 9833394
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for improving the quality and durability of color in artificially colored hair. The methods employ salts of hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids. The salts of the hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids are incorporated into a pre-color treatment composition (a composition applied to the hair prior to coloring the hair) or added directly to the coloring composition (in-color treatment composition). The salts add alkalinity to the coloring process. Hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids are incorporated into a post-color treatment composition (a composition applied to the hair after coloring the hair). The salts and the acids act as chelators, fixing the dye molecules to the hair, thereby imparting color fading resistance to the hair.

  • Patent number: 9820922
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for improving the quality and durability of color in artificially colored hair. The methods employ alkaline earth metal salts that act as a mordant (a fixing agent) with the dye and hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids, which act as chelators. The artificially colored hair is treated with a post-color treatment composition comprising one or more alkaline earth metal salts and one or more hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids. Also, the one or more alkaline earth metal salts may be incorporated into a coloring composition for coloring the hair (in-color treatment composition) and a subsequent post-color treatment composition comprising one or more hydroxy-polycarboxylic acids can be applied to the hair.

  • Publication number: 20170326056
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for treating hair with lactones. The lactones form a covalent thio-ester bond with free thiols groups on chemically treated hair, and thereby impart a “repairing” or “conditioning” effect to the hair, for example, by making the hair more hydrophobic. Typically, after hair has been treated with a composition comprising one or more reducing agents that reduce disulfide bonds of hair to free thiols, a composition comprising one or more lactones is applied to the hair and the one or more lactones react with the free thiols to form a covalent thio-ester bond. Treatment with the lactones prevents reversion of the repaired bonds to their free thiol state after a single application.

  • Publication number: 20170281515
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for inhibiting color fading in hair and for improving the color durability and stability of artificial color of hair. The methods entail forming a layer-by-layer (LbL) film on hair, and optionally forming a cationic surface layer on the LbL film. The LbL film is formed by applying a cationic silane layer on the hair and subsequently applying an anionic polymer layer on the cationic silane. Multiple cationic silane layers and anionic polymer layers can sequentially be added as desired. Finally, the LbL film may comprise a cationic surface layer.
