  • Patent number: 7577516
Abstract: In accordance with at least one embodiment, a portable data terminal generally comprising a battery: a central controller, a GPS system, and an auxiliary processor. The central controller that has a sleep state wherein at least some of the functionality of the central controller is limited to conserve battery power. The auxiliary processor may be selected based, at least in part, on power draw. In particular, it is desirable for the auxiliary processor to use less power than the central controller when the central controller is fully activated. The auxiliary processor monitors the output of the GPS system and wakes the central controller from a sleep state based on the output of the GPS system.

  • Patent number: 7571857
Abstract: A data collection system including a portable data terminal and a base for receiving the portable data terminal. The portable data terminal having a first interface for receiving power and a second interface for connecting to a communication link. The base having a housing adapted to receive and support the portable data terminal, a power supply receiving power from an external power source and upon insertion of the portable data terminal into the housing supplying power to the first interface on the portable data terminal, a communication link adapted to interface with the portable data terminal, and a location determination device, such as a GPS receiver, connected to the communication link and supplying the portable data terminal with location data via the communication link.

  • Publication number: 20080181465
Abstract: A patient identification system based on a portable data terminal including a biometric data capture device for capturing biometric scan data from a person and creating a biometric template for the person. A reference biometric template is prepared based oil a biometric scan of patient. Software is provided on the portable data terminal to compare the biometric template captured by the portable data terminal to the reference biometric template and indicate a whether the person corresponds to the patient described by the reference biometric template.

  • Publication number: 20030231164
Abstract: The present invention provides for a keyboard controlled and activated windowing system pointing device that is typically implemented on a portable data terminal. The pointing device will typically be activated and deactivated by engaging an activation key on the portable data terminal. This allows for multifunctional keys to exist on the keyboard and for the cursor (i.e. the pointer) to be displayed and removed from the display upon activation. Additionally, the pointing device provides for scrolling of the foreground windowed application when the cursor encounters an edge of display. This allows users to access data in oversized windowed applications that do not fit the size limitations of portable data processing displays.
