    Abstract: Oriented articles such as jars and the like having wall sections of exceptional uniformity are thermoformed from sheet by heating the sheet to orientation temperature and stretching it with a plug assist which has a concave surface with a flat face around the periphery thereof terminating in a radius of 1/64 to 1/4-inch. This configuration allows a controlled amount of slippage to occur as the plug advances to stretch the sheet.
