    Abstract: Provided is an electrically surface-controlled subsurface safety valve (ESCSSV). The ESCSSV, in one example, includes an outer housing comprising a central bore extending axially through the housing that is configured to convey production fluids there through. The ESCSSV, in this embodiment, further includes a valve closure mechanism disposed proximate a downhole end of the central bore, and a bore flow management actuator disposed in the central bore and configured to move between a closed state and a flow state to engage or disengage the valve closure mechanism to determine a flow condition of the production fluids through the central bore. The ESCSSV, in this embodiment, additionally includes an electric valve assembly fluidically coupled to the bore flow management actuator and configured to select between a section pressure or the annulus pressure to control the bore flow management actuator and determine the flow condition of production fluids through the central bore.

    Abstract: A gas separation and injection system includes a lower separator that receives and separates a production stream into higher and lower density streams, a turbine-compressor including a turbine that receives the lower density stream to rotate a shaft that drives a compressor and subsequently recombines the lower and higher density streams into a recombined production stream. An upper separator receives the recombined production stream and includes a gas inlet tube that conveys a gas stream to the compressor to produce a compressed gas stream. A shuttle valve assembly axially interposes the upper separator and the turbine-compressor and includes a mandrel assembly received within a body and having the gas inlet tube extending within the mandrel assembly, a valve seat secured to the gas inlet tube, a piston movably arranged within the inner annulus between closed and open positions, and a shuttle valve operatively coupled to the piston.

An equalization fluid flow passageway provides a fluid path between the longitudinal bore above the valve and the longitudinal bore below the valve. An equalizing device is located within the equalization fluid flow passageway and configured to resist sand and debris effects on its operation, the equalizing device regulating flow through the equalization fluid flow passageway and operated by the valve actuator prior to opening the valve.

Wellbore systems configured for axial displacement of a switching mechanism may comprise: a tubing string comprising a nipple and a primary safety valve, the primary safety valve being disposed in the tubing string above or below the nipple; a control line and a balance line in hydraulic communication with the primary safety valve and in latent hydraulic communication with an internal flow pathway within the nipple; and a switching mechanism that is axially displaceable to establish hydraulic communication between an insert safety valve positioned in a bore of the nipple and both the control line and the balance line.

A flow tube is positioned within the central flow passageway and engageable with the flapper to move the flapper to the open position. An actuation piston is operatively coupled to the flow tube, a balance piston is operatively coupled to the flow tube, and a lock-open piston is engageable with an actuator sleeve operatively coupled to the flow tube. A lock-open tool is positionable within the central flow passageway to convey hydraulic pressure into a lock-open piston bore and thereby actuate the lock-open piston to an actuated position that moves the flow tube and permanently locks the flapper in the open position.

    Abstract: A flapper and seat assembly, and systems and methods utilizing such assembly, are provided. The flapper and seat assembly includes a tubular metallic seat having a bore therethrough. The tubular metallic seat is one solid unit. The flapper and seat assembly further includes a hinge coupled to the tubular metallic seat and a flapper. The flapper is pivotally mounted to the hinge such that it is rotatable between an open position and a closed position. The flapper and seat assembly also includes a secondary sealing element located between the flapper and the tubular metallic seat. The secondary sealing element is one of an undulating or curved lip seal. The flapper and seat assembly further includes a seal that is formed between a sealing surface of the flapper and a sealing surface of the tubular metallic seat. The seal comprises an angle measured from a plane perpendicular to the centerline of the flapper and seat assembly.
