  • Patent number: 5813475
Abstract: An agricultural sweep has a main body with a cutting edge including a tip and winged portions extending away from the tip. The tip and winged portions have hardfacing material on them. In the improvement, the width of the hardfacing material on the tip is greater than the width of the hardfacing material on the winged portions, thereby conforming the location of hardfacing material to a soil pressure gradient along the cutting edge. A new method for applying a hardfacing material to an agricultural sweep includes the steps of (a) determining a face pressure gradient resulting from soil passing across the face and applying hardfacing material to those portions of the face at which the gradient exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 5678930
Abstract: A bearing assembly has first and second trunnions supporting a bearing and defining a trunnion pivot axis. In the improvement, each of the trunnions is mounted in and supported by a separate cushion member of annular shape. The assembly permits bearing pivoting about the trunnion pivot axis (i.e., about the X axis) and the cushion members permit limited freedom of movement of the trunnions in axes (i.e., the Y and/or Z axes) which are angular to the pivot axis. The new bearing assembly is ideal for use on an earth-working implement such as a disc harrow.

  • Patent number: 5207279
Abstract: An agricultural apparatus having a combination of ground engaging tools thereon. The agricultural apparatus includes a plurality of ground engaging cultivator tools mounted on a frame assembly which is specifically configured to promote accurate lateral spacing of the cultivator tools thereon. The agricultural apparatus further includes a pair of disc gang assemblies arranged on opposite lateral sides of the longitudinal centerline of the implement and a lift mechanism for conjointly elevating and positioning the disc gang assemblies relative to the frame assembly. The frame assembly is comprised of a series of interconnected frame members including laterally extending tool bars. Each cultivator tool is adjustably secured to a respective tool bar by a resiliently biased bracket assembly. To facilitate lateral adjustment of the cultivating tools, the tool bars are fixedly connected in spaced relation to other frame members.
