  • Patent number: 7535446
Abstract: A liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) device includes a wafer, glass, and walls formed at opposite ends of an upper surface of the wafer to define a predetermined cell gap between the glass and the wafer. A thin piezo-electric layer is attached onto a surface of the wafer and an electrode is applied with external power to expand and/or contract the thin piezo-electric layer. The LCOS device further includes a voltage detection unit for detecting a voltage generated by the deformation of the thin piezo-electric layer; and a feedback control unit for compensating for deformation of the thin piezo-electric layer according to the voltage detected by the voltage detection unit. The LCOS device achieves uniformity of the cell gap by adjusting the voltage level of the thin piezo-electric layer after bonding the wafer and the glass, and therefore, spacers are not required.

  • Patent number: 7536490
Abstract: A method for link bandwidth management between two devices in communication through a bandwidth-adjustable bus in a computer system determines which of a speed negotiation priority and a width negotiation priority is higher when the change condition is activated. An original width of the bus is changed to a target width first while remaining an original speed of the bus unchanged when the width negotiation priority is higher, and then optionally changing the original speed to a target speed. On the other hand, an original speed of the bus is changed to the target speed first while remaining the original width of the bus unchanged when the speed negotiation priority is higher, and then optionally changing the original width to the target width. The bus operates at a target bandwidth with the target width and the target speed without disabling the link state or powering down the computer system.

  • Patent number: 7535541
Abstract: The invention includes a liquid crystal display panel including spacers and a method of making this panel. The spacers, which are positioned in the liquid crystal-filled gap between a first substrate and a second substrate, provide support to the substrates and prevent the substrate from bending when the device is used as a touch screen panel. By preventing the bending of the device, the spacers help prevent the undesirable ripple effect suffered by liquid crystal devices. In order to minimize the amount of light blocked by the spacers, the spacers are formed in a region where light is substantially intercepted anyway, such as in a contact hole. A black matrix layer is formed on the spacers. The spacers may be distributed unevenly between the substrates, depending on how much force each of the spacers will have to absorb in each area of the panel.

Abstract: A laser induced thermal imaging (LITI) apparatus and a method of making an electronic device using the same are disclosed. The LITI apparatus includes a chamber, a substrate support, a contact frame, and a laser source or oscillator. The LITI apparatus transfers a transferable layer from a film donor device onto a surface of an intermediate electronic device. The LITI apparatus uses a magnetic force to provide a close contact between the transferable layer and the surface of the intermediate device. The magnetic force is generated by magnetic materials formed in two components of the LITI apparatus that are spaced apart interposing transferable layer and the surface of the intermediate device. Magnets or magnetic materials are formed in the two following components of the LITI apparatus: 1) the intermediate device and the film donor device; 2) the intermediate device and the contact frame; 3) the substrate support and the film donor device; or 4) the substrate support and the contact frame.

  • Patent number: 7535437
Abstract: A structure and driving method of a plasma display panel is provided, in which an amount of priming particles within a discharge cell increases to reduce discharge lag of address discharge. The structure of the plasma display panel includes a plurality of sustain electrode pairs successively formed on an upper electrode, a plurality of common electrodes formed one by one between a pair of the sustain electrodes, and a dielectric layer formed on the substrate to deposit the sustain electrodes and the common electrodes. The method for driving the plasma display panel includes the steps of applying a common pulse, which is periodically turned on/off, to the common electrodes, applying a scan pulse to one of a pair of the sustain electrodes, and applying an address pulse to the address electrodes when the scan pulse is applied to the one sustain electrode. Thus, since discharge conditions within the discharge cell can be improved, discharge lag less occurs than the related art plasma display panel.
