Patent number: 8437317Abstract: A wireless communication system including transmitters for determining a transmission rate for an associated receiver according to channel state information fed back from associated receivers, and transmitting packets at the determined transmission rate. In a communication method, a transmitter groups packets to be transmitted to the receivers according to transmission rates, and generates frames configured by packets with an identical transmission rate. The transmitter aggregates frames with different transmission rates into one transmission burst, and sends the transmission burst. The data communication method based on packet aggregation can efficiently manage resources by determining transmission rates for reception stations (STAs) on the basis of feedback channel state information in a transmission STA, aggregating packets to be transmitted to the reception STAs to form a packet group, and transmitting packet groups with different transmission rates using one multi-rate aggregation (MRA) burst.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2005Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kyung-Hun Jang, Jong-Ae Park, Dong-Jun Lee, Jin-Bong Chang, Young-Soo Kim

Patent number: 8416809Abstract: Disclosed is a receiver for configuring a Block Acknowledgement (BA) frame in a wireless communication system for acknowledgement of a data transmission from a transmitter. The receiver receives a Block Acknowledgement Request (BAR) frame in the data transmission from the transmitter and determines an overall size of a bitmap for the BA frame from the BAR frame to acknowledge the data transmission. The receiver configures the BA frame of the response to include the bitmap having the determined overall size, and transmits the configured BA frame to the transmitter. The bitmap of the BA frame includes bits representing reception results of packets of the data transmission received from the transmitter.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2009Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kyung-Hun Jang, Jong-Ae Park, Dong-jun Lee, Jin-Bong Chang, Yoong-Soo Kim

Patent number: 7953030Abstract: A method and apparatus controls power consumption of stations having a hierarchical structure when the stations transmit and receive a wireless signal to and from one another on a CSMA/CA wireless LAN. The controlling involves extracting information on frame transmission speed and transmission period information on first and second layers of the hierarchical structure from the wireless signal; determining a power-controlled period for each of the first and second layers based on the extracted information; and reducing the power consumption of the first and second layers by switching a current mode of the first and second layers to a predetermined mode for the power-controlled period if a reception address included in the extracted information is not identical to an address of the station.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2004Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chang-woo Seo, Jin-youn Cho, Kyung-hun Jang, Jin-bong Chang, Hyo-sun Hwang, Sang-hyun Woo

Patent number: 7688856Abstract: In the data transmission method, a MAC layer receives data from an upper layer, classifies the data according to destination addresses and traffic identifiers, aggregates the data by destination address and traffic identifier as a first transmission unit, aggregates the first transmission units having the identical destination address as a second transmission unit, and transmits the second transmission units having different destination addresses in a single frame. The data transmission method allows packets transferred from the upper layer to be hierarchically aggregated by DAs and TIDs and then packaged into a data unit for each destination such that it is possible to transmit the data at an optimal data rate for each destination terminal.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2005Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignees: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Seoul National University Industry FoundationInventors: Kyung-Hun Jang, Dong-Jun Lee, Sung-Hyun Choi, Jin-Bong Chang, Young-Soo Kim

Patent number: 7599363Abstract: Disclosed is a bitmap structure which enables the size of a bitmap field containing reception result information to be significantly reduced while fully performing its acknowledgment function. To this end, a message region for recording indicators, which enables reception success or failure for the maximum allowable SN level packets treatable by block ACK to be confirmed, is assigned. A message region for recording only the reception results for unsuccessfully received packets is also assigned. A receiving party confirms the unsuccessfully received packets through the indicators, and retransmits the unsuccessfully received packets. Also, a transmitting party provides the number of SN level packets and the maximum number of fragmentation packets to the receiving party. The receiving party determines an optimized bitmap configuration scheme, and transmits the reception results for the respective fragmentation packets to the transmitting party based on the determined bitmap configuration scheme.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2005Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co. Patent number: 7489668Abstract: A method for transmitting data at a high rate in a wireless LAN is provided. A wireless access point requests reliable node information from a wireless terminal having a transfer rate equal to or less than a predetermined transfer rate if data to be transmitted to the terminal occurs. The terminal produces a frame containing information related to reliable nodes that can communicate with the terminal and information of greatest transfer rates between the reliable nodes and the terminal, and transmits the frame to the access point. The access point selects an optimal relay node from the reliable nodes, based on the greatest transfer rates between the reliable nodes and the access point and transfer rates between the reliable nodes and the terminal, and determines if a relay gain exists when using the optimal node. If the relay gain exists, the access point performs relay transmission to the terminal; otherwise, it performs direct transmission to it.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2004Date of Patent: February 10, 2009Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Jin-Youn Cho, Chang-Woo Seo, Jin-Bong Chang, Kyung-Hun Jang, Hyo-Sun Hwang
