Abstract: A data organization application allowing the automatic organization of input data into fields of a record of a database is provided. The database is maintained by a separate application. To organize data, a user inputs data in a free form manner onto an input screen provided by the application. When the data entry is completed, the user invokes an organize function in the application to process the input data. The application breaks the input data into logical groups that belong together and assigns tokens to these logical groups. From the assigned tokens, the application is able to identify single tokens or groups of tokens that belong to a unique field or a number of unique fields in the record of the data store. The application goes on to identify other logical groups of data in the input data which belong to other fields in the record.

Abstract: A method for retrieving data with a more intuitive manner of specifying search conditions is disclosed. The method is implemented as an application on a computing device. The method is suitable for retrieving information stored as records in the computing device in a search operation. Records are retrieved if they meet a set of search conditions. The search conditions comprise a search text and other conditions. The application accepts a search command which contains the search text and any other search conditions. This search command consists of words entered in a free-form manner. Words which match predetermined keywords are translated into search conditions using information related to the predetermined keywords. Non-matching words form the search text. In a search operation, the application communicates with a user through a set of screens which are bidirectionally linked to one another.

Abstract: A method for scaling a portion of an image shown on the display of a PDA is disclosed. After scaling, the display of the PDA switches to show the scaled view of the portion of the image. This method essentially involves the scaling of a first set of display information which forms the portion of the image, into a second set of display information which makes up the scaled view. During the scaling process, a series of look-up tables containing display conversion information are generated. An address-indexing technique is then used with the look-up tables to achieve an efficient and fast scaling process. The method also employs a smoothing technique to provide a more pleasing scaled view.
