  • Patent number: 9769756
Abstract: A processing device assigns a wake-up quota to an application, the wake-up quota comprising a time period. The processing device determines whether the application has met or exceeded the wake-up quota in the time period. Responsive to determining that the application has met or exceeded the wake-up quota in the time period, the processing device limits at least one of future alarm wake-ups, future network wake-ups or wake locks for the application.

  • Patent number: 9648564
Abstract: A processing device identifies a plurality of wake-ups that are requested by one or more applications and applies a wake-up restriction policy to the plurality of wake-ups. Applying the wake-up restriction policy to a wake-up of the plurality of wake-ups comprises determining whether the wake-up conforms to the wake-up restriction policy. Responsive to determining that the wake-up conforms to the wake-up restriction policy, the processing device permits the wake-up to activate at least one of the processing device or an additional processing device. Responsive to determining that the alarm wake-up will violate the wake-up restriction policy, the processing device prevents the wake-up from later activating at least one of the processing device or the additional processing device.

  • Patent number: 9211065
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for transmitting relatively more critical information between devices using a first wireless technology and transmitting relatively less critical information using a second wireless technology more susceptible to interference than the first wireless technology. One example method generally includes performing an association with a second apparatus via a first wireless technology, wherein the first wireless technology requires proximity between the first and second apparatuses; communicating first information with the second apparatus via the first wireless technology, a second wireless technology, or a combination of both the first and second wireless technologies, while the first and second apparatuses are still in proximity; and communicating second information with the second apparatus via the second wireless technology.

  • Patent number: 9065553
Abstract: The various embodiments provide systems, devices, and methods which include an acoustic tag configured to transmit an acoustic signal through a contact medium that may be received by an acoustic modem, with the acoustic signal configured to transmit information. By modulating sound traveling through an acoustic connection between the fluid container and a pump, meter or valve, information such as an identifier of the fluid or container may be transmitted without risk of confusion with other fluid containers in the vicinity. In a medical embodiment, IV fluid and the IV drip tube provide a fluid and plastic acoustic connection to an IV pumping or metering device and an IV bag through which sound may be transmitted. The transmission of identification information through this physical connection may insure that the pumping or metering device only communicates with the IV bag coupled to the pump. Acoustic tags may be active or passive.

In a representative embodiment, the method comprises measuring a processor's load level, activity level, or usage in the device. The method further comprises comparing the load level to a first value to determine if a first condition is satisfied. The method further comprises comparing a screen update rate of screen composition tasks of the device to a second value when the first condition is satisfied, wherein the second comparing is used to determine if a second condition is satisfied. The method further comprises regulating the screen composition tasks of the device when said first condition and the second condition are both satisfied. In a representative embodiment, the system comprises a device such as a wireless smartphone.

  • Patent number: 8923610
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a calculating unit, an edge-position detecting unit, an identifying unit, and a subject-region detecting unit. For each color separation image, the calculating unit calculates a gradient direction of an edge gradient and an edge intensity at each position on the basis of a color captured image. The edge-position detecting unit detects edge positions in each color separation image on the basis of the gradient directions of the edge gradients and the edge intensities. For each position, the identifying unit identifies the gradient direction of the edge gradient and the edge intensity at the position in one of the plural color separation images that includes the largest edge intensity at the position. The subject-region detecting unit detects a subject region on the basis of the detected edge positions, the identified gradient directions of the edge gradients, and the identified edge intensities.

  • Patent number: 8805077
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes the following elements. A line-candidate identifying unit identifies candidates of lines that constitute a contour of a subject region, on the basis of a captured image. A line-probability calculating unit calculates, for each identified candidate, line probability information representing a probability that the candidate is a line that constitutes the contour of the subject region, on the basis of feature values of positions located at or within a reference distance from the candidate in the captured image. A region-probability calculating unit calculates region probability information representing a probability that a target region surrounded by a predetermined number of candidates chosen from the identified candidates is the subject region, on the basis of the line probability information of the predetermined number of candidates. A subject-region detecting unit detects the subject region, on the basis of the calculated region probability information.

  • Publication number: 20140082833
Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable urine container extension device for removable attachment to a prior art container containing a disinfectant. The device is preferably comprised of a first end having an exterior threaded portion, a second end having an interior threaded portion, a continuous opening extending from said first end to said second end, and a cap. The cap forms a waterproof seal with the first end, and the second end forms a waterproof seal with the container, thereby resulting in a portable urine collection device. The device enables a user to urinate comfortably when restrooms are not readily accessible. The device may accommodate men, women and/or children, and enables a disinfectant to remain in the container during use thereby reducing unwanted odors and the risk of health related problems commonly associated with holding in one's urine.
