Abstract: A method for providing a widget service using a media service providing apparatus is provided. A method for providing the widget service includes operations of scanning channels providing media services therethrough; determining whether or not there is an available channel among the scanned channels for allocating a widget service; if it is determined that there is the available channel, allocating the widget service to the available channel; and providing the widget service allocated to the available channel. Accordingly, a widget service is provided without disturbing a user viewing a television (TV), increasing user convenience.

Therefore, it is possible for a user to construct a sub-screen for providing a widget service by selecting only part of widget information forming the entire display screen rather than reducing the size of the entire display screen.

Abstract: A method of visually measuring the brightness of ambient lighting around a display device is disclosed. In this method, first, a reference brightness of the display device is determined according to a type of display device. Thereafter, information about locations where the display device is used is received from the user, and illuminance values of the display device corresponding to brightness stages are set based on the reference brightness and the location information. Then, a reference brightness is converted into each of the illuminance values corresponding to each of the brightness stages. The converted images with the illumination values corresponding to the brightness stages are displayed to the user, and an image that has a brightness value nearest to the brightness of ambient lighting is selected, and the brightness value of the selected image is determined as the brightness of ambient lighting.

Abstract: A method for providing a video source list and a video apparatus are provided. The video apparatus comprises a combiner which combines an external input list with a video to be displayed, the external input list including information regarding external inputs of the video apparatus and a controller which generates the external input list, and controls the combiner, wherein the controller selectively changes a display order in which the information regarding external inputs is arranged in the external input list.
