Abstract: A reserved program record setting method and apparatus for a program preview of a broadcasting program to be recorded and used with a video cassette recorder (VCR) and a television set. The method includes a first step of judging whether a program preview of a broadcasting program to be reserved and recorded is being broadcast, a second step of storing a program reserving code of the broadcasting program when the program preview is currently being broadcast in the reserved program recording mode, and a third step of completing a reserved program recording operation by turning off the VCR, thereby quickly reserving a record for a predetermined program by once pressing a program preview storing key while the program preview of the broadcasting program to be recorded is being broadcast.

Abstract: A combination recording apparatus and method thereof automatically selects a recorder based on a use status. A combination recording apparatus in which a first recorder and a second recorder are integrated, has a first recording unit provided to the first recorder and recording an input image and/or audio; a second recording unit provided to the second recorder and recording the input image and/or audio; and a control unit setting one of the first recording unit and the second recording unit to record the input image and/or audio based on a recording frequencies of the first recorder and the second recorder. Since the use status such as the recording frequency reflects a preference and a use habit of a user, it is useful to automatically select a recorder based on a user's preference. It is also beneficial that the combination recording apparatus is easier to operate.

Abstract: A combination recording apparatus, and a method of controlling the combination recording apparatus, combining a first recording apparatus to record an input video on a first recording medium and a second recording apparatus to record the input video on a second recording medium, the combination recording apparatus including a calculator to calculate a recordable time of the first recording medium, wherein the combination recording apparatus records a portion of the input video on the first recording medium according to the recordable time, and records a remainder of the input video on the second recording apparatus.

The recording apparatus includes: a calculator to calculate a recordable time of the recording medium, a manipulator to set a recording time, an on-screen display (OSD) processor to OSD-process information, and a controller to record the input video with the recording time unspecified and to control the OSD processor to OSD-process information indicating the unspecified recording time when the recording time exceeds the recordable time. Accordingly, as the user cannot set the recording time over the recordable time of the recording medium.

Abstract: A combination recording apparatus for simultaneously recording and a simultaneous recording method. The combination recording apparatus includes a first recording section provided in a first recorder for recording an input video, a second recording section provided in a second recorder for recording the input video, a first controller provided in the first recorder for controlling the first recording section to record the input video when a recording command is received, and a second controller provided in the second recorder for controlling the second recording section to record the input video and transferring the recording command to the first controller when a simultaneous recording command is received. Accordingly, the combination recording apparatus enables to the user to simultaneously record the input video in more than two recorders with easy and simple manipulation.

Pictures containing an associated character shape are stored in correspondence with a various states of the electronic device. The pictures are formed of fonts each of which has a predetermined magnitude and corresponds to a block of the picture. One or more fonts are read during the time of shifting a device state according to a user key input, and the fonts are changed at time intervals to display a moving picture. A sound corresponding to the moving picture may be output together with the displayed moving picture, to further enhance the device state indication. Thus, a current state of the electronic device is more recognized by persons who do not read characters.

Abstract: This method form performing reserved recording of broadcasting programs in a VCR provides for starting of recording accurately at the beginning of each recording-reserved broadcasting program. The reserved recording method extracts the program identification information, such as a VPS or a KBPS, in the received broadcasting signal of a broadcasting program. Based on a comparison of the program identification information, a judgement is made whether recording execution should be started. All recording reservation data of the same channel are compared at once. The order of precedence in which channels are selected for comparison of their corresponding recording reservation data with the program identification information is based on the order of the programmed start times of the various recording reservation data. This method decreases the amount of time spent comparing program identification data to the recording reservation data at the start of recording execution.

Abstract: A reserved-recording method and apparatus is provided in which a plurality of broadcast programs reserved within a certain time are recorded as many as possible within the limit of capacity of a recording medium. The apparatus includes a key input portion, am memory for storing reserved-recording information of the programs, an on-screen-display (OSD) for displaying character data involving reserved-recording set states of the programs, a timer for checking a current time of a system, and a recording start time and a recording end time of the reserved programs, a detector for detecting and outputting states of a supply reel and a take-up reel and a frequency generator (FG) signal of the capstan motor, a recorder for recording the received broadcast programs, and a system controller for controlling the above whole blocks in order to reserved-record the plurality of broadcast programs.
