Abstract: An electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery includes a lithium salt, a non-aqueous organic solvent, and an additive. The additive is represented by Chemical Formula 1, and is included in an amount of about 0.05 wt % to about 3 wt % based on the total amount of the electrolyte. A rechargeable lithium battery including the same is also disclosed. Chemical Formula 1 is as described in the present specification.
