  • Patent number: 10852775
Abstract: In various examples, a portable computing device is provided that has a bottom shell and a top shell pivotally coupled to the bottom shell for movement between a closed position and at least one open position. A display fits within a perimeter rim of the top shell, the display being obscured from view when the top shell is in the closed position and being viewable when the top shell is in the at least one open position. A coupling linkage couples the display, the top shell, and the bottom shell, to move the display between at least a first position with the display closer to the top shell when the top shell is in the closed position and a second position with at least a portion of the display farther from the top shell when the top shell is in the open position.

  • Patent number: 6272006
Abstract: A pivot device for portable computers is provided that may be constructed using a pivot bearing, located at the rear edge of a main body of the portable computer and a pivot member that is fastenably attached to a display housing. Thus, the display housing is rotatably connected to the main body. The pivot member may be constructed using both a lower support part, that is mounted to the lower portion of the display housing, and a side support part that extends radially away from the hinge axis to fastenably attach to the side portion of the display body. In the second embodiment of this invention, the side support part of the pivot member has a hook that engages the inner surface of the side wall in the display housing.

  • Patent number: 5706167
Abstract: A portable notebook computer having an ergonomically designed keyboard made up of two rotatably separable keyboard sections. Upon opening up the lid of the notebook computer, the user may manually rotate the keyboard sections apart to a desired angle. When the user is finished working on the notebook computer, the user folds the lid onto the main body of the computer. While the lid is being closed, the separated sections of the keyboard are automatically driven together in response to the user closing the lid. Thus, the user is not required to make an additional maneuver of rotating the keyboard sections together.
