    Abstract: Disclosed are chitosan derivatives and a preparation method thereof, in which a chitosan is combined with a polypropylene glycol that provides a required solubility in water and high compatibility with other compounds. The chitosan derivatives represented by the formula I are prepared by grafting the polypropylene glycol on the amino group or hydroxyl group of the chitosan or a partially deacetylated chitosan by nucleophilic substitution: wherein Rchit represents a chitosan or a partially deacetylated chitosan; and n is an integer.
