    Abstract: A surface light source apparatus (100) includes a main body (105) having a space, and a plurality of space division members (130) being disposed in the space so that the space division members (130) are extended in a first direction and arranged in a second direction spaced apart from one another to divide the space into a plurality of light emitting spaces (112). The space division members (130) include a plurality of connecting holes (132). At least two of the connecting holes (132) have different heights from one another with respect to a bottom surface of the main body (105) to have the light emitting spaces connected to one another through the connecting holes (132). The surface light source apparatus also includes a visible light emitting unit to generate a visible light in the light emitting spaces. Therefore, the brightness-uniformity of the surface light source apparatus and an image display quality of a display device are improved.

Each of the lamps may also have an external electrode having a different area from each other or due to the positions at which the lamps are disposed. Furthermore, each of the lamps may have a different amount of discharge gas injected thereinto due to the positions at which the lamps are disposed. Accordingly, the liquid crystal display apparatus may provide a uniform brightness, and prevent deterioration of display quality thereof.

    Abstract: A surface light source device includes a lamp body, a space dividing member, a discharge gas supplying member and a voltage applying part. The lamp body includes a flat shaped space and a fluorescent layer disposed in the flat shaped space to convert an invisible light into a visible light. The space dividing member divides the flat shaped space into a plurality of discharge spaces. The discharge gas supplying member is disposed to pass through the space dividing member and is fixed to the space dividing member, and supplies the discharge spaces with a discharge gas that generates the invisible light. The voltage applying part applies a discharge voltage to the discharge gas. Therefore, the lifetime of the surface light source device generating a planar light is increased, and the luminance of the light becomes uniform so that the display quality of an image is improved.

    Abstract: A backlight assembly includes a planar fluorescent lamp, a heat-discharge member and a bottom chassis. The planar fluorescent lamp includes a lamp body, a first external electrode and a second external electrode. The lamp body emits light, the first external electrode is formed on an upper face of the lamp body and the second external electrode is formed on a lower face of the lamp body. The heat-discharge member is coupled to the planar fluorescent lamp allowing the heat-discharge member to make contact with the first and second external electrodes. The bottom chassis includes a bottom portion and a side portion to receive the planar fluorescent lamp and makes contact with the heat-discharge member. Thus, the backlight assembly may effectively discharge heat generated from planar fluorescent lamp and prevent a pin-hole defect.

The diffusion member diffuses the bluish light to increase luminance uniformity. The display panel includes a liquid crystal layer, a fluorescent layer and a reflective-polarizing member (a reflective polarizer). The fluorescent layer generates visible light based on the bluish light received from the liquid crystal layer. The reflective-polarizing member partially reflects the visible light generated from the fluorescent layer toward the fluorescent layer. Therefore, luminance and viewing angle are increased.

The light generating part emits the laser beam and transmits the laser beam to sequentially reflect from one end of a light reflecting part to an opposite end thereof. The scanning part includes at least two scanning mirrors that are transported between upper and lower portions of the display unit to irradiate the laser beam to the display unit. In this manner, scanning speed is increased so that an image display quality is improved.
