  • Patent number: 7298978
Abstract: An optical receiver in an optical communication system, and more particularly, to a method and an apparatus for optimizing a decision level of a signal output from an optical receiver to obtain a minimum bit error rate (BER) by measuring output characteristics of the optical receiver and adjusting a reference voltage of the optical receiver based on a measurement result. The provided method includes measuring the strength of an electric signal at a modulated frequency out of the frequency elements of the output electric signal in the optical receiver, generating a reference voltage based on the strength data of the electric signal, inputting the reference voltage to the optical receiver and re-measuring the strength of the electric signal output from the optical receiver to determine whether the strength of the signal is minimum, and maintaining the reference voltage when the strength of the signal is minimum and adjusting the reference voltage in other cases.

  • Patent number: 7295784
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for performing optical Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) modulation, which transmits a phase difference between adjacent bits as information. The electrically band-limited optical DPSK modulating apparatus includes a light source, a Non-Return-to-Zero (NRZ) signal generator, a pre-coder, an electrical low pass filter, and a phase modulator. The NRZ signal generator generates a NRZ signal. The pre-coder codes the NRZ signal generated by the NRZ signal generator into a differential signal. The low pass “filter electrically limits a bandwidth of the differential signal obtained through the pre-coder. The phase modulator modulates an optical signal input from the light source into a DPSK signal using the differential signal having the bandwidth electrically limited by the low pass filter.

  • Patent number: 6333927
Abstract: The present invention relates to a data transmission method between a base station controller (BSC) and a base transceiver station (BTS) in a digital mobile communication system, for varying a length of a frame according to a data transmission rate, thus improving transmission efficiency of a trunk between the BSC and BTS. When transmitting voice and data from the BSC to the BTS, a selection unit in the BSC generates a length-varied frame according to a transmission rate of a packet to be transmitted to the BTS and transmits the variable length frame to the BTS. Alternatively, when transmitting voice and data from the BTS to the BSC, a base station common processor in the BTS generates a length-varied frame according to a transmission rate of a packet to be transmitted to the BSC and transmits the variable length frame to the BSC. Therefore, the present invention can effectively use a channel bandwidth between the BTS and the BSC, thereby improving trunk efficiency.
