  • Patent number: 7711541
Abstract: At a first step, initial groups are assigned to buttons of an input portion and they are displayed on the display. One initial group is specified in response to the pressed button. At a second step, complex initials and predetermined syllables are assigned to the buttons and they are displayed on the display. One complex initial or one predetermined syllable is specified in response to the pressed button. At a third step, finals are assigned to the buttons and they are displayed on the display. One final is specified in response to the pressed button and a syllable is determined by connecting the specified final with the initial in the specified complex initial. The predetermined syllable specified at the second step or the syllable determined at the third step is determined as an input syllable.

  • Patent number: 7245290
Abstract: A controller assigns initial sound component groups to buttons and specifies the group corresponding to the hit button, and assigns medium sound component groups to buttons and specifies the group corresponding to the hit button. The two-component Hangul characters that are combinations of the specified groups, the numbers of three-component Hangul characters that are combinations of the two-component Hangul characters and lax final sound components or un-lax final sound components are assigned to the buttons. When the button assigned to the character is hit, the two-component Hangul character is confirmed. When the button assigned to the number is hit, three-component Hangul characters corresponding to the number are assigned to the buttons. When the button assigned to the character is hit, the three-component Hangul character is confirmed.

  • Patent number: 7165021
Abstract: Initials of the Chinese language are classified into nine initial groups. The first touch of a numeric key of a cellular phone selects an initial group including the initial of the desired syllable for input. The second touch of a numeric key selects one of initial-final groups, each including an initial and one of five final groups. These final groups comprise a simple final group and four types of complex final groups. The third touch of a numeric key specifies a final to determine the desired syllable.

  • Patent number: 7165022
Abstract: Initials of the Chinese language are classified into nine initial groups. The first touch of a numeric key of a cellular phone selects an initial group including the initial of the desired syllable for input. Then, guidance is displayed corresponding to a final group to which the final of the desired syllable belongs. The syllable is determined based on the operation according to the guidance. The present invention classifies finals into the first final group composed of simple finals, the second final group composed of complex finals that start with a, e, or o, the third final group composed of complex finals that start with i, or y, the fourth final group composed of complex finals that start with u, or w, and the fifth final group composed of complex finals that start with v, or yu.

  • Patent number: 7058900
Abstract: Every Chinese character belongs to a small graphic form group which is created with respect to the radical of the character instead of character components. Every small graphic form group is incorporated into higher-level groups, i.e. medium graphic form groups, in turn every medium graphic form group is incorporated into higher-level groups, i.e. large graphic form groups. Input guidance is provided according to this hierarchy concerning graphic form. More specifically, the large groups are presented and one of them is selected by the first keystroke, the medium groups are presented and one of them is selected by the second keystroke, and the small groups are presented and one of them to which the desired character for input belongs is selected by the third keystroke. In this fashion, three keystrokes to a numeric keypad efficiently narrows down the alternative characters for conversion.

  • Patent number: 5457454
Abstract: An input device, which utilizes a virtual keyboard, includes a device for designating at least one input-position in a virtual keyboard displayed on a display; an input-symbol defining device for defining a form and a meaning of each input-symbol drawn by the designating means (e.g., a write-pen); and a symbol recognition device for discriminating the input-position and related input-symbol drawn at the input-position on the basis of information defined by the input-symbol defining means. The input device generates a specified input-code in a real keyboard in accordance with a combination of the input-position and the input-symbol, and displays characters or symbols corresponding to the input-code on the display means. Preferably, the form of each input-symbol includes a length of a segment drawn by the designating device and a direction in which the segment extends.
