    Abstract: A communication system includes a shared channel occupied by a plurality of user equipments (UEs) and spread with a plurality of channelization codes to transmit user data, and a plurality of control channels for transmitting control information related to the shared channel in order to enable the UEs to receive the shared channel signal. The system generates a plurality of control channel sets by classifying the control channels into a predetermined number of control channels, and assigns the control channel sets so that each of the UEs monitors a particular control channel set among the control channel sets. Upon detecting necessity to modify a control channel set to be assigned to a particular UE among the UEs, a Node B determines to modify a control channel set assigned into the UE to a new control channel set at a predetermined point of time to come.

    Abstract: An RNC determines parameters available for measurement of a synchronization signal and second Node B information from a second Node B, transmits the determined parameters to a first Node B during radio link setup and to a UE during radio bearer setup, and transmits parameter selection information to the first Node B and the UE, if it is recognized that measurement of the synchronization signal and the second Node B information is necessary. The first Node B changes a position of a downlink time period over which a downlink channel is transmitted from the first Node B to the UE and a position of an uplink time period over which an uplink channel is transmitted from the UE to the first Node B, according to parameters selected from the parameters. The UE receives the synchronization signal and the second Node B information in the remaining time periods except the changed downlink time period and the changed uplink time period among the plurality of time periods.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for frequency synchronization in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, wherein the method includes the steps of transmitting OFDM symbols in such a manner that a data symbol size of a particular OFDM symbol in each frame is set to be smaller than a data symbol size of a typical OFDM symbol within the frame, receiving the OFDM symbols and calculating respectively, correlation coefficients of the particular OFDM symbol based on both a time interval of corresponding data symbols and a time interval of data symbols of the typical OFDM symbol, taking respectively phases of corresponding correlation coefficient calculated from the particular OFDM symbol and estimating a decimal part of a frequency offset, and determining an integer part of the frequency offset corresponding to the decimal part of the frequency offset, thereby estimating an entire frequency offset and acquiring the frequency synchronization.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for controlling uplink transmission power in a handover region by a UE in communication with a Node B using an FCS scheme. The UE stores TPC commands received for a specific duration from a plurality of cells in an active set, if the UE enters in the handover region during communication with a current best cell. If a next best cell is selected from the plurality of the cells, the UE determines a transmission power offset by comparing TPC commands from the current best cell with TPC commands from the next best cell for the specific duration at a time point where the best cell is changed from the current best cell to the next best cell. The UE transmits initial transmission power for the next best cell at a transmission power level determined considering the transmission power offset.

A channel estimator estimates a channel impulse response for a radio channel corresponding to a predetermined plurality of regularly spaced direction-of-arrival (DOA) values. A data estimator estimates the received data using a received signal and a system matrix. A quantizer quantizes the estimated data. An interference and noise calculator calculates noise vectors at the respective antenna elements by removing from the received signal an influence of the quantized data to which the system matrix is applied, calculates an estimated noise matrix at the plurality of antenna elements, calculates interference power by auto-correlating the estimated noise matrix, and calculates noise and interference power based on the interference power.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing a broadcasting service in a mobile communication system. The apparatus and method can transmit broadcasting service data using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols in the mobile communication system. Broadcasting service data is encoded and modulated. The modulated data is demultiplexed into data streams corresponding to a number of orthogonal frequency subcarriers. The data streams are transformed using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The transformed data streams are multiplexed using OFDM. Information with a predetermined length placed in a last part of OFDM data is copied. The copied information is added as a cyclic prefix (CP) to a head part of the OFDM data, and OFDM symbols to be transmitted are generated. The generated OFDM symbols are multiplexed into a forward channel of the mobile communication system, and the multiplexed OFDM symbols are transmitted.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for multiplexing packets for broadcast services in a mobile communication system based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Different broadcast service packets received from at least two channels are multiplexed into one slot and a result of the multiplexing is transmitted. Overhead information of the channel packets multiplexed into the one slot is generated and transmitted.

The apparatus and method enable a common MBMC (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Control) layer to be allocated between a plurality of cells, enable MBMC layers to be classified on the basis of types of services, and use the classified MBMC layers.
