Patent number: 8823352Abstract: In a current mode controlled switching power supply, current through the inductor is sensed to determine when to turn off or on the switching transistors. The inductor current has a higher frequency AC component and a lower frequency DC component. The AC current feedback path, sensing the ramping ripple current, is separate from the DC current path, sensing the lower frequency average current. Separating the current sensing paths allows the signal to noise ratio of the AC sense signal to be increased and allows the switching noise to be filtered from the DC sense signal. The gain of the DC sense signal is adjusted so that the DC sense signal has the proper proportion to the AC sense signal. The AC sense signal and the DC sense signal are combined by a summing circuit. The composite sense signal is applied to a PWM comparator to control the duty cycle of the switch.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2011Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: Jindong Zhang

Patent number: 6232702Abstract: An electroactive device incorporating the invention includes an electroactive ceramic annular substrate having a pair of opposed planar annular surfaces, a hollowed interior region and a thickness aspect. A first cap having a concave shape that extends into the hollowed interior region includes a rim portion, bounding the hollowed interior region, and joined to a first one of the planar surfaces. A second cap having a concave shape that extends into the hollowed interior region includes a rim portion, bounding the hollowed interior region, and joined to a second one of the planar surfaces. A potential measured across the ceramic substrate enables a field change in the ceramic substrate to be sensed, the field change caused by flexure of the ceramic substrate as a result of a pressure applied to the first and second caps.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1999Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Assignee: The Penn State Research FoundationInventors: Robert E. Patent number: 6147882Abstract: A single-stage input-current-shaping (S.sup.2 ICS) converter of the present invention integrates a voltage-doubler-rectifier front-end with a DC/DC output stage. Two families of voltage-doubler S.sup.2 ICS converters are disclosed. In one family, a 2-terminal dither source is provided between a boost inductor and a common input terminal of a storage capacitor and the DC/DC output stage. The 2-terminal dither source includes two paths connected in parallel: a first path for charging and a second path for discharging the boost inductor at a high frequency (HF). In the other family, a 3-terminal dither source includes a third terminal coupled to a pulsating node of the DC/DC output stage.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1998Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignees: Delta Electronics, Inc., Virginia Tech.
