    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may perform a decoding operation on a downlink message for the UE. The UE may store, in a buffer of the UE, decoding information associated with the decoding operation on the downlink message based at least in part on the decoding operation on the downlink message being at least partially unsuccessful. In some examples, the UE may transmit, to a network entity, a report indicating buffer usage information of the buffer of the UE, where the buffer usage information indicates one or more parameters associated with the decoding information stored in the buffer of the UE. In some cases, the buffer usage information may indicate one or more transport blocks for which entries are present in the buffer of the UE.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) procedure for the random access channel (RACH) response message in a two-step RACH procedure. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes sending a RACH message to a base station (BS) during a two-step RACH procedure. The RACH message includes a RACH preamble and a RACH payload. The UE monitors a RACH response message from the BS during a random access response (RAR) window. The UE transmits a retransmission of the RACH message, an acknowledgement (ACK) to the RACH response message, a negative acknowledgment (NACK) to the RACH response message, or does not transmit, to the BS based on whether a RACH response message carrying a success RAR or a fallback RAR, or no RACH response message, is received from the BS during the window.

    Abstract: Wireless communications systems and methods related to the timing arrangements and the transmission gap configurations in 2-step random access channel (RACH) procedures to improve system latency and reliability of a RACH HARQ process are provided. The UE transmits a first message including a random access preamble and a payload, and then monitors for a second message in response to the first message during a random access response (RAR) window. In response to determining that no second message is received by the UE from the BS or a back off indicator is received within the RAR window, the UE re-transmits the preamble and payload of the first message after the RAR window lapses. In response to determining if the second message received within the RAR window carries a FallbackRAR or SuccessRAR, the UE then determines to re-transmit the payload of the first message based on the FallbackRAR, or to transmit an acknowledgement message based on the SuccessRAR.
