  • Patent number: 7366524
Abstract: A system and method for using subnet relations to determine paging areas, for performing authentication and association, and to activate access network interfaces in wireless communication devices in a heterogeneous access network. Paging areas are generated using subnet relations by determining mobility agent servers within a predetermined number of subnet relations from a last active mobility agent server. Authentication and association are also accomplished using subnet relations. Access network interfaces can also be turned on and off based on subnet relations thereby conserving battery power.

  • Patent number: 7236475
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring subnet relations in a wireless communication system is disclosed. A wireless communication device is provided and is located in a first subnet. When the wireless communication device executes a handoff to a second subnet, a mobility agent server notifies a virtual operator server of the handoff. As a result of the handoff, a subnet relation is created between the first subnet and the second subnet that is stored and later used to control how the wireless communication device uses power by placing network interface systems that cannot be used in a power-saving mode.

  • Patent number: 7072657
Abstract: A method of coordinating the handoff of a mobile carrier between a first access network and a second access network. The method including establishing a contract between a user of a mobile carrier and a hyper operator and attempting a hand off from a first access network that the mobile carrier is currently operating within to a second access network, wherein the attempting includes authenticating at the hyper operator only that the user may have access to the second access network via the contract. Handing off to the second access network if the authenticating is successful.

  • Publication number: 20030195858
Abstract: An on-line transaction approval system includes a service provider and a proxy server, along with a principal device operated by a principal. The principal has a user account with the on-line transaction approval system. A beneficiary operating a beneficiary device may be enabled to utilize the user account in on-line transactions. Upon receipt of an on-line service order request by the service provider from the beneficiary via the beneficiary device, the proxy server may receive a transaction request from the service provider. The principal device may receive notification of the service order request. The proxy server may provide authorized personal information to the service provider as a function of authentication of the beneficiary and authorization by the principal. The service provider may fulfill the service order request based on receipt of the authorized personal information.

  • Publication number: 20030163558
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for an operator to monitor access network services available to an end device, where the end device communicates in a heterogeneous network environment. The heterogeneous access networks can include networks such as a cellular network, a satellite network, a local area network (LAN) and a Bluetooth network. Different access networks may be available to the end device based on a location of the end device and a time that the network is being accessed. A subscriber to the system, or user of the end device, desires access to a particular network depending on the available access networks. To determine which access networks are available, an operator instructs the end device to determine available access networks located with the heterogeneous network environment. The access network information is collected from at least one node within the heterogeneous network, and made available to the operator.

  • Publication number: 20030161265
Abstract: A network monitoring system for monitoring network performance across heterogeneous networks with an end device is disclosed. The network monitoring system includes a network comprising a first heterogeneous network communicatively coupled with a second heterogeneous network. The first heterogeneous network may include the end device, an intermediate node and a gateway. The second heterogeneous network may include an application server. The end device and the application server may communicate over the network with a datastream. The end device may generate a tracer packet as part of the datastream. The datastream may travel through the intermediate node. The intermediate node may store network service information in the tracer packet. The gateway may operate as an interface to the second heterogeneous network. The gateway may intercept the tracer packet and store network condition information therein.
