  • Publication number: 20100194998
Abstract: An apparatus for processing images includes a de-multiplexer, a first decoder, a thumbnail generator and an encoder. The de-multiplexer receives a data stream, the de-multiplexer de-multiplexing a video signal and a channel information from the data stream. A first decoder decodes the video signal to provide a decoded video signal including at least one of Predicted frame, (P-frame), Intra frame (I-frame) or Bi-directional frame (B-frame). The thumbnail generator is coupled to the first decoder, and the thumbnail generator generates at least one of a still picture thumbnail or a moving picture thumbnail based on the decoded video signal. The still picture thumbnail and the moving picture thumbnail have at least one of a smaller resolution or a smaller data size than the decoded video signal. The encoder is coupled to the thumbnail generator and the de-multiplexer.

  • Patent number: 7133451
Abstract: In one embodiment, an adaptive motion area process is performed to determine which macroblocks are to be intracoded. Adaptive motion change detection can efficiently reduce the large propagation error, including errors occurring in the motion area. An intercode distortion value and an intracode distortion value are calculated, as are an intercode bit rate and an intracode bit rate. Based on a comparison of the calculated intercode distortion value and the intracode distortion value, and on a comparison of the intercode bit rate and the intracode bit rate for each macroblock, a decision is made as to which predicted frame macroblocks are to be intracoded.

  • Patent number: 7042948
Abstract: The invention is related to methods and apparatus that manage data received in a video bitstream. Video data received from the video bitstream is placed in a ring buffer, which is also known as a circular buffer. Data logging information is also stored in the ring buffer. In one embodiment, the data logging information is stored synchronously or in alignment with the corresponding video data. The data logging information can include a status of whether the corresponding video data with or without error. The ring buffer provides fast and efficient access to video bitstream data that may be accessed multiple times in multiple directions by modules that extract data from the video bitstream in an error resilient manner.

  • Patent number: 6104753
Abstract: HDTV video decoder circuit is disclosed, which has an 1/4 size frame memory for a progressive scanned or interlace scanned video and yet can conduct IDCT and motion compensation to fit to the reduced frame memory size, which, in comparison to a conventional MPEG-2 video decoder which uses a 4.times.4 IDCT that requires 1/4 frame memory in encoding an interlace scanned image into frame picture only to lose field information of the image resulting in a significant damage to the picture quality, facilitates to maintain the field information as it was resulting in an improvement in the picture quality.
