Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for reducing risk and schedule during workflow scheduling in asset-intensive projects. A subject project schedule comprises a plurality of tasks wherein at least some of the tasks have an initial resource demand. A critical path through the plurality of tasks is identified. Alternate resources deemed to be possible alternatives to the initial resource demand are identified, and the risk of using the alternate resource is assessed by calculating a first path risk value (e.g., corresponding to assigning initial resource demand to the critical path) and calculating a second path risk value (e.g., corresponding to assigning the first alternate resource to the critical path). The impact of selecting one or another risk-assessed resource is assessed, and a resource having a lower risk is selected. Further processing includes adjusting at least one task on the critical path to use the selected lower risk resource.
